• Del Potro kicks off Olympic bid against Dodig

    7/28/12 3:23 AM | Cheryl Murray
Del Potro kicks off Olympic bid against Dodig Juan Martin Del Potro, the No. 8 seed, will begin his 2012 Olympic campaign against Croatian Ivan Dodig.

World No. 9 Juan Martin Del Potro, Argentina's top seed at the Summer Games, will take on Ivan Dodig in his first match.

Del Potro came from almost out of nowhere to win the 2009 US Open title. He is the only player besides Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic to win a slam since Marat Safin won the 2005 Australian Open.

Unfortunately for Del Potro, he lost nearly a year to wrist surgery and hasn't been quite the same player since. Still, the Argentine is capable of hitting any player off the court on a given day.

His first-round opponent will be Croatia's Ivan Dodig, ranked No. 95 in the world. He's had four straight first-round losses, starting with s'Hertogenbosch and finishing with Gstaad last week. Before that, though, Dodig made the quarterfinals at Queen's Club so he definitely knows how to play on grass.

Prediction – Del Potro for the win in straight sets.
