Mayer goes down to Bolelli, Gulbis ousted Simone Bolelli takes out Florian Mayer on Wednesday in Kitzbuhel. Bolelli is joined in the quarterfinals by Rogerio Dutra Silva, who beat Ernests Gulbis in straight sets.

    Simone Bolelli d. (2) Florian Mayer 6-2, 7-6(4)

Rain wreaked havoc with the bet-at-home Cup on Wednesday, but not before a second-round upset was allowed to take place. Bolelli broke serve three times and won 59 percent of his second-serve return points to take out the second-seeded Mayer in one hour and 39 minutes.

A dominant first set saw Bolelli cruise through all four of his service games while losing a mere four points in those games. Mayer made things competitive in the second, as the players exchanged one break of serve each. But the 111th-ranked Italian eased through the tiebreaker seven points to four, setting up a quarterfinal clash against Martin Klizan.

    Rogerio Dutra Silva d. (7) Ernests Gulbis 6-4, 6-4

Gulbis' woes continued as he crashed out of Kitzbuhel to Dutra Silva in one hour and 19 minutes on Thursday. The Latvian had a chance to start well, but he squandered a 0-40 advantage at 1-0 and he missed another break-point opportunity at 3-2. Dutra Silva eventually broke for a 4-3 lead of his own and he served out the opener the rest of the way.

With momentum in hand, the 107th-ranked Brazilian earned another scalp of the Gulbis serve right away in set two. After exchanging breaks midway through the set, Dutra Silva finished off the proceedings at 5-4. This gives Dutra Silva six ATP wins for his career while Gulbis, who won Los Angeles at this time last year, is expected to exit the Top 100.
