• Atlanta the last stop before chilly London games

    7/17/12 10:39 PM | Johan Lindahl
Atlanta the last stop before chilly London games The entire American men's Olympic team has lined up in Atlanta this week for a final taste of warmer weather before heading to what promises to be a cold and likely rainy London Olympics.

Ryan Harrison, John Isner, Andy Roddick and Donald Young were all on hand in the hard-court draw in the southern hotspot.

Roddick stands a current 27th in the ATP after a decade in the top 10. But the 29-year-old is taking life on court as it comes and will not stress over his declining tennis. "My mentality is you play the week that is in front of you, regardless of what else is going to happen.

"If I play great here that can only help me going into the Olympics. It doesn't change my mindset going into Atlanta at all. I always try to do, I'll be 100 percent."

Roddick said he had rejected the idea of skipping the week after a tough loss to Spain's David Ferrer in the Wimbledon third round. "I felt it was beneficial for me to come home after Wimbledon and to get into some of the heat in Atlanta and match conditions. I felt was the best-case scenario for me."

Mardy Fish is the major US name missing from London, deciding weeks ago to skip the Olympics and play in the US. The US team will head to Britain within days, hoping to get re-acclimated to the grass of Wimbledon before the July 28 start of the Olympic tournament.
