    UNICEF Open- Ferrer advances, Troicki falls Top seed David Ferrer is through to the second round after ousting Canadian qualifier Pierre-Ludovic Duclos in straight sets. The World No. 6 is joined by veteran Xavier Malisse, who upended second seed Viktor Troicki.

    (1) David Ferrer def. (Q) Pierre-Ludovic Duclos 6-4, 6-4

    World No. 6 David Ferrer made a successful start to the tournament, having taken out Canada’s Pierre-Ludovic Duclos on Tuesday. The Spaniard converted three of 9 break points through to a 6-4, 6-4 victory in 93 minutes. Ferrer completed the first-round effort with just 12 points surrendered on serve.

    He will meet Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer for a place in the quarterfinal.

    Xavier Malisse def. (2) Viktor Troicki 7-6(4), 6-2

    World No. 95 Xavier Malisse is through to round two by virtue of his straight-sets ousting of Serbia’s Viktor Troicki. The Belgian held 10 consecutive service games without facing a break point. He ended the opening-round match with 6 aces and 94% of his first-service points captured.

    Malisse is slated to face Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi in the next round.
