    Seeds fall at UNICEF Open Veteran Gilles Muller and wildcard Igor Sijsling are through to the second round after recording wins over tournament seeds Santiago Giraldo and Jarkko Nieminen.

    Wildcard Igor Sijsling made a strong start to the tournament, having upended veteran Jarkko Nieminen in straight sets. The 24-year-old needed just 55 minutes to secure his first Tour-level victory of the season, 6-2, 6-4. Sijsling completed the match with three of 3 break points converted. The Finn struggled with his second serve, unable to win more than 43 of the points.

    Sijsling will take on Olivier Rochus or Malek Jaziri in the next round.

    Gilles Muller def. (5) Santiago Giraldo 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 6-3

    Gilles Muller made the second round by virtue of his three-sets ousting of 5th seed Santiago Giraldo. The 28-year-old tallied 16 aces en route to a 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 6-3 win in two hours and 11 minutes. Muller ended the match with 17 service games held without facing a break point.

    He is slated to face either Alejandro Falla or Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo in the second round.
