  • Nadal heads to Halle, in same half as Berdych

    6/12/12 6:06 AM | Ricky Dimon
Nadal heads to Halle, in same half as Berdych Rafael Nadal will be in action on the grass courts of Halle just a few days after winning another French Open title. The top-seeded Spaniard is on a collision course with Tomas Berdych for the semifinals.

Rafael Nadal is once again diving right back into action following the French Open, but this he is taking his talents to the Gerry Weber Open instead of Queen's Club. Nadal, who finished off Novak Djokovic on Monday for a record seventh title at Roland Garros, is the top seed in Halle ahead of Roger Federer.

The second-ranked Spaniard will kick off his campaign on Thursday--on two full days rest--against either Lukas Lakco or qualifier Konstantin Kravchuk. Should Nadal win his opener, he will face either Lukasz Kubot or defending champion Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarterfinals.

An in-form Tomas Berdych presents the real problem for Nadal in the bracket's top half. Berdych finished runner-up to Federer in Madrid and reached the French Open fourth round before losing a tough one to Juan Martin Del Potro. The Czech is in a quarter of the draw that also includes Marcel Granollers, Viktor Troicki, Tommy Haas, and Bernard Tomic.

As for the chances of a Nadal withdrawal, that won't be happening. The 11-time Grand Slam champion confirmed on Monday that he will play doubles with Granollers on Wednesday before suiting up for singles a day later.

Hope he gest a few matches (at least 3) under his belt in prep. for Wimby... we can say that for a Clay King he's back on his beloved grass :D
Strange not to see him in Queens... I've been out of tennistalk for so long that perhaps someone can tell me what was the real reason behind this...?

The real reason could be the appearance money ....If Halle could invite Roger-Rafa , then obviously more people will be interested in this ...So, seems like they gave Rafa a huge sum just like they shelled a lot of money to Roger some time back.......

I saw Rafa arrive and welcomed by the boss of the tournament about an hour ago on TennisTV on the ATP website.

The way they've fussed over Rafa in Germany and celebrated his 7th RG title, I don't think Queens will see him again, whether they change the tax laws or not.

In England, they've hardly mentioned Rafa's historic 7th title win at RG. They are not interested in anything to do with tennis if it does not involve Andy Murray. They only announce Murray's results and usually announce about the others in the top 4 if they lose or have a tough match. They never mention anyone outside the top 4 unless they win against one of the or Murray plays one of them. As far as the WTA is concerned, they only announced the results of the final, nothing at all from Round to the SF, apart from the British girls losing in round 1 or 2.

So Gerry Weber has now got Rafa for keeps, I'm sure.

rafastrasse next year?

@Nadine 8.16pm. Think your right, I doubt if we`ll see Rafa back at Queens. We don`t get much coverage of tennis in Scotland either, its slightly better than it used to be as Andy`s #4 but only a little and we don`t here anything about the other guys. I have friends who watch Wimbledon and say they would enjoy seeing more tennis but there is virtually no coverage, apart of course from Rolland Garros on ITV1. I hope they are screening the USO. It would benefit the mainstream channels as viewers wouldn`t have to subscribe to other providers, their advertising would reach a wider audience, (in the case of ITV), more people including kids (hopefully encourage them to play) would watch the beautiful game and who knows one day GB might have a number one. Sadly tennis in this country is not accessable enough to kids as a result the sport misses out on a large pool of talent.
