  • Murray considering his Queen's grass start

    6/7/12 3:21 PM | Johan Lindahl
Murray considering his Queen's grass start Top draw card Andy Murray appears to be pondering his participation at the first of the grass events next week at Queen's Club, London after losing his French Open quarter-final to David Ferrer in four sets.

The Scot, who has been guided since the start of the year by former champion Ivan Lendl, has yet to fully decide his grass-court start, with the world No. 4 entered as main draw card for the pre-Wimbledon Queen's event from Monday.

"I'll do what's best for my preparation for Wimbledon, back or no," said Murray after going down in more than four hours to Spain's human backboard, David Ferrer.

He dropped a possible hint that getting fitter could take precedence over playing next week at home. "When I can get that done, whether it's over the next five, six days before I play at Queen's, or the four or five days I would have after Queen's before the tournament obviously at Wimbledon, it's not a disaster if I can't play a tournament beforehand.

"Novak (Djokovic) didn't play before Australia this year; I don't believe he played before Wimbledon last year. Many times Roger (Federer) has not played an event before. It happens all the time. You just need to make sure you're comfortable on the courts and the surface you're playing on before you start the tournament."

Murray needs points to hang on to no 4 spot he wouldnt want to run in to the top players in QFs.Murray hasnt done very well this year he hasnt won any master series events if he continues to play badly he can lose his grip on world #4 ranking

Er no, Ferrer would have to win RG to catch Andy. Andy's best surfaces are coming so just let's see what happens. Though of course, he must stay injury free.

I don't think Murray has to worry about his ranking at the moment. He has to just get healthy for all the tennis to come. That should be his first concern. Wimbledon and the Olympics are ahead!

The gap between Murray and No. 5 is a sizeable one. That said, I doubt that Murray will lose his No. 4 ranking. He has a good shot at cruising and winning Queens considering the other top 3 are playing at Halle. Good luck Andy and stay healthy!

do not play

RickyDimon , 6/8/12 3:35 AM

@ Scoretracker, just to correct you, Nole is not on the Halle entry list, and he's not on the list for Queens either. Looks as though he will skip a grass court warmup this season.

Don't think Nole played either last year. Am inclined to agree with Ricky, not enough points for Andy to risk further injury. Besides, he said David was fitter than he was by the end of the match and that has got to addressed b4 Wimbles where he should at least reach the semis.

From his comments, I don't think he wants to play, but he might feel the pressure considering its a home tournament or whether his coach or mum wants him to play..i think he shouldn't play either..

Even Delpo is doubtful for Queens, and if Murray pull out it looks like WC Andy Roddick will be the star attraction.

nadline , 6/8/12 12:17 PM

Well I'm up for Roddick to get another bong anyhoo.
A `swansong bong`if you will
He would have won 6 to 10 more slams if the TMF never been born, after all ;-)
Murray should sit this one out....Try and say that after a few Pimms.

Twinge , 6/8/12 2:40 PM

^^^Pardon moi,
I meant `Gong`not `Bong`.
Oh Dear!
lol.
