    Tsonga overcomes slow start, Verdasco through Fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga advanced to the second round following his four-set victory over Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov. The Frenchman is joined in round two by Fernando Verdasco, who took out Steve Darcis in straight sets.

    World No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga moved into the second round, having rallied to upend qualifier Andrey Kuznetsov on Sunday. After surrendering the opening set, the Frenchman converted seven of 11 break-point chances. He completed the first-round effort with 10 aces and 28 winners.

    Tsonga is slated to face Cedrik-Marcel Stebe for a place in the third round.

    (14) Fernando Verdasco def. Steve Darcis 6-3, 6-2, 7-6(4)

    Fourteenth seed Fernando Verdasco is through to the second round after downing Belgium’s Steve Darcis in straight sets. The 28-year-old Spaniard tallied seven aces and 33 winners during the match. Verdasco was broken at 6-5 in the third set, but came back to seal the victory in a tie-break.

    He will take on Gilles Muller or Igor Sijsling in the second round.
