  • Murray, Ferrer headline bottom half of Barcelona draw

    4/22/12 10:57 PM | Cheryl Murray
Murray, Ferrer headline bottom half of Barcelona draw Andy Murray and David Ferrer hold the second and third seeds in the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell and with both camping in the bottom half of the draw, they’re seeded to meet in the semifinals.

No. 2 seed Andy Murray had a rocky showing at the Monte Carlo Masters last week. The Scot advanced to the quarterfinals, but once there he was dispatched by Tomas Berdych. Though he took the first set, Murray’s form was less than impressive in the loss.

His half of the draw in Barcelona is filled with dangerous seeds. No. 6 seed Nicolas Almagro is his potential quarterfinal opponent, followed by David Ferrer and if he gets past those two Spaniards, he might well face down Rafael Nadal in the finals.

Ferrer played poorly in Monte Carlo, with the Spaniard taking a surprising loss at the hands of Thomaz Bellucci in the second round. But that just means that Ferrer will be well-rested coming into Barcelona.

Murray shouldn’t face much danger through the quarters, but a loss to Almagro in the quarters wouldn’t be a surprise.

It seems Nadal is getting a lot of super easy rigged draws these days. Where is Conspirator to mention this I wonder? The only one who is remotely a challenge, Mandy in this case, is surrounded with Armada henchmen in the form of Ferrer and Almugro.

no rest for weary.

sadv18 i say before aaaallllll draws on clay easy for Rafa. how could be harder. Could only be more easy if nadal punchbag playing but he too busy stitching monograms into his clothes.

Fed is doing the smart thing resting closedeye. It's been almost 2 years since Nadal won a title off of clay so of course he is making hay while the sun is shining. Soon he will have to play South American clay swing in February to get points too.

chr18 , 4/23/12 1:42 AM

ha ha, chr18, your advice is applicable to Fed! Fed can win points on the south american swing and post us open where only the also rans are active.
In the slams and in the Masters upto US Open, it is mostly Nole and Rafa/Murray in the finals. Poor Fed has made just one slam final out of 8 in 2 years whereas Rafa has made 7 out of 8. There is just no comparison.
Federer will be forced to take your advice about the South American swing and be another Wozniacki.

holdserve , 4/23/12 2:27 AM

Silly holdself Fed will never play SA clay. He can get points too easily from indoors. What is your point that a 25 yo in his prime is doing better in majors now? At 30 Fed is doing just fine with 3 titles including one real Masters 1000 where everybody had to play. Wait til Nadal gets 30. South American here he comes.

Hey chr18, unlike your pathetic Fed who is hanging on without a slam to his name in 2 yrs, Rafa will quit when he can no longer compete with the best for the slams. I expect Rafa, who has a real personal life, to quit when he reaches 30.

holdserve , 4/23/12 5:28 AM

hawkeye, you are new to this forum? You are a staunch Rafa fan. Let us hope Rafa sweeps the clay season, the Wimby and the Olympics!
I won't participate in this forum till RG. Hope to come back to join you guys and gals in celebrating Rafa's wins! Vamos Rafa!

holdserve , 4/23/12 5:40 AM

Hmm. Nobody seems to be talking about Andy or Ferrer here. Would be nice if we kept Fedal wars to appropriate threads *sigh.*
I'm glad Andy is meeting the Spanish Armada here. Lots and lots of good practise is what he needs on the clay. No more withdrawals or injuries against him please.
Let's go!

deuce , 4/23/12 7:04 AM

agree with deuce. the tards better stay away from normal threads. holdserve can only talk about doping allegations towards Fed and cockeye can only foll chr18 around. which ia fun to see btw.
