Tsonga leads tricky quarter in Monte-Carlo World No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga heads to Monte-Carlo this week, looking to regroup after France's Davis Cup quarterfinal defeat to the United States. The Frenchman enters the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters draw seeded fourth.

World No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga makes his return to competition following a singles loss to John Isner in Davis Cup. The 26-year-old is 19-6 for the 2012 season, aided by a title-winning effort in Doha (def. Monfils).

With the absence of world No. 3 Roger Federer, Tsonga is seeded fourth at the tournament. He tops a challenging quarter of the draw that hosts (7) Janko Tipsarevic, (9) Gilles Simon and (13) Fernando Verdasco.

Additional players in the same section include Milos Raonic, Albert Montanes, Mikhail Youzhny, Olivier Rochus, Philipp Kohlschreiber and former world No. 3 Ivan Ljubicic.

As the fourth seed, Tsonga has been awarded a first-round bye. The nearest seeded player to him is Verdasco, who may surface as a possible round of 16 opponent.

Should the seeds hold through the draw, the Frenchman looks toward a probable quarterfinal match with Tipsarevic. If Tsonga makes his way into the semifinals, he will likely face seven-time champion Rafael Nadal.
