  • Fish sounds ready to skip chaotic London Olympics

    3/29/12 10:10 PM | Johan Lindahl
Fish sounds ready to skip chaotic London Olympics Mardy Fish may well prefer to put his feet up at home during the looming chaos of the London Olympics, with the world No. 8 ready to skip the Games and play smaller ATP vents closer to his California base over the summer.

The 2004 Athens silver medalist has been-there, done-that as far as the Games are concerned and sounds like he's just not ready for all for the bother which seems to be in store for competitors at the Olympics spread across a traffic-clogged capital which will be on high security lockdown for a month or more.

After skipping 2008 Beijing, the 30-year-old Fish knows the drill of a voluntary absentee. He might well recluse himself from consideration for a US team which can send four singles players to London. Other than himself - the leading American - No. 10 John Isner, No. 34 Andy Roddick and No. 46 Donald Young would also qualify at the moment.

"I have a lot of great memories from the Olympics, and I have a lot of tough memories from the Olympics, as well," said Fish. "I haven't decided yet. It sounds amazing. My memories from Athens I'll always have. So we'll see."

"Staying closer to home, playing tournaments that I'm comfortable in,” he said. “I think it comes up against Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles I ride my bike to UCLA (July men's event) right now, so I'm pretty close there."
