• Federer on fire, headed to Sony Ericsson Open

Federer on fire, headed to Sony Ericsson Open Roger Federer is already looking for his fourth title of the season as he moves from Indian Wells to Miami. Federer faces a potential opener against Ryan Harrison before a likely third-round showdown with Andy Roddick.

The No. 2 ranking does not mean a whole lot for someone of Roger Federer's ilk, but that's exactly what Federer can obtain at the 2012 Sony Ericsson Open. Thanks to his recent hot streak, the 16-time Grand Slam champion is suddenly within striking distance of second-ranked Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

Federer must win the title (and Nadal must lose prior to the final), but he may have to navigate through some tough matches early in the tournament before he can start thinking about the finish line. Up first for Federer is a meeting with either Ryan Harrison or Potito Starace and he could go up against familiar foe Andy Roddick in round three.

The Swiss' quarter of the draw shapes up such that his later matches may present less of a problem than those earlier in the event. Potential fourth-round opponents for Federer included Gael Monfils--who continues to struggle physically--Juan Monaco, Jarkko Nieminen, and Ernests Gulbis. Among the possible quarterfinal adversaries for Federer are Nicolas Almagro, Fernando Verdasco, and a slumping Mardy Fish.

Fish will be hard-pressed just to make it out of his sixteenth of the bracket. The section features an intriguing matchup between 6'6'' American Sam Querrey and in-form Aussie Matthew Ebden. The winner will face Delray Beach champion Kevin Anderson with the winner of that matchup potentially running into Fish in round three.

Other first-round clashes in the second quarter of the draw are Alex Bogomolov vs. Gilles Muller and Yen-Hsun Lu vs. Jarkko Nieminen. Gulbis will begin his campaign against a qualifier (Sergei Bubka), as will Donald Young (David Goffin).

The semis are almost a given bare injury. Then if Roger meets Djokovic I think he has a good chance since djokovic hasn't been playing like in 2011.

Should Roger win his semi the finals are always going to be hard be it against Murray or nadal.

HOPP Roger!!!

Well, as shown last Sunday, not ALWAYS going to be hard, no?
