    Acapulco - Ferrer outlasts Giraldo, Verdasco next Two-time defending champion David Ferrer advanced to a third consecutive final in Acapulco following his straight-sets dismissal of Santiago Giraldo. The top seed will take on countryman Fernando Verdasco in Saturday’s title match.

    World No. 6 David Ferrer made his third final of the season, having held on to oust Santiago Giraldo late Friday. The Spaniard saved six of six break points en route to a 7-5, 6-4 victory in an hour and 51 minutes.

    After saving break points at 5-5, Ferrer collected set point in the 11th game. The top seed went on to close the set with a well-timed forehand winner. Giraldo had two chances to break in set two, but was unable to convert either point. Match point came at 5-4 for Ferrer, who completed the winning effort as Giraldo netted a forehand.

    Ferrer is set to battle fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco for the championship title. The 8th seed defeated Stanislas Wawrinka in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-3.
