    Ferrer, Almagro top seeds in Acapulco World No. 5 David Ferrer looks toward a successful title defense at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, as the ATP World Tour concludes its early-season clay-court swing. The Spaniard enters into the tournament as the number one seed.

    Top seed David Ferrer heads to Acapulco with momentum, having captured the Copa Claro championship title in Buenos Aires. The 29-year-old veteran won his second crown of the season following a successful run in Auckland.

    Ferrer is bidding for his third consecutive title at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel this week.

    He leads the top half of the draw that includes (3) Gilles Simon, (5) Florian Mayer and (7) Marcel Granollers. Other competitors in the section are David Nalbandian, Thomaz Bellucci, Potito Starace, Santiago Giraldo and Lukasz Kubot.

    Ferrer is scheduled to commence his title defense against Mexican wildcard Santiago Gonzalez.

    Second seed Nicolas Almagro tops the bottom half of the draw, where he is joined by fellow seeds (4) Kei Nishikori, (6) Juan Monaco and (8) Fernando Verdasco.

    Additional players in the same section include Jeremy Chardy, Stanislas Wawrinka, Juan Ignacio Chela, Albert Montanes and former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero.

    The Copa Claro finalist will take to the court against a qualifier in the opening round.

Ferrer is the favourite to win this. But, almagro has the game on clay to surprise him.
