    Nalbandian puts Argentina 2-0 ahead of Germany Argentina will head into Saturday's doubles rubber with a commanding 2-0 edge over Germany, after Juan Monaco and David Nalbandian won their respective singles matches.

    Juan Monaco def. Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 6-3, 6-3

    World No. 23 Juan Monaco scored the first point for Argentina, ousting Philipp Petzschner in three sets. The 27-year-old secured five of 11 break points, through to a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory in two hours and three minutes. Monaco completed the winning effort with 27 total winners.

    David Nalbandian def. Florian Mayer 2-6, 6-0, 6-1, 7-6(5)

    Former world No. 3 David Nalbandian gave Argentina a critical 2-0 lead with his four-sets success against Florian Mayer. After dropping the opening set, the veteran came back to seal the two-hour, 32-minute contest in four sets. Nalbandian trailed 3-0 in the fourth before leveling at 4-4.

    Nalbandian missed a handful of match points starting at 6-1 in the tiebreaker but managed to close the contest seven points to five. The 30-year-old ended the day with 56 winners and six service breaks.

    Host nation Germany will attempt to save the tie as doubles pair Petzschner and Tommy Haas face Juan Ignacio Chela and Eduardo Schwank on Saturday.
