    Austria leads Russia 2-0 Host nation Austria has a 2-0 advantage over two-time champion Russia after Jurgen Melzer and Andreas Haider-Maurer defeated respective opponents Igor Kunitsyn and Alex Bogomolov Jr.

    Former world No. 8 Jurgen Melzer survived an extended singles rubber against Russia’s Igor Kunitsyn on Friday. The veteran was pushed to five sets but held on to take the first point for Austria in four hours and four minutes.

    Melzer completed the match with 23 aces and seven of 23 break points converted.

    Andreas Haider-Maurer def. Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-1, 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-2

    Andreas Haider-Maurer gave Austria a 2-0 lead after downing first-time Davis Cup participant Alex Bogomolov Jr. Haider-Maurer converted seven of 10 break chances through to a 6-1, 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-2 victory in two hours and 28 minutes.

    Russia looks to extend the tie as former world No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko and former world No. 8 Mikhail Youzhny take on Oliver Marach and partner Alexander Peya.
