Australian teenager Bernard Tomic has finally parted company with the jinxed supercar which has led him astray on Queensland roads and into the arms of the local law.
Australian media report that a mystery buyer has paid nearly full price for the fire-orange BMW M3 monster, which has landed the 19-year-old in traffic court to the detriment of his promising career.
The car reportedly sold for nearly $51,000, though the world No. 34--who reached the Australian Open fourth round before being pulled over multiple times by police once he returned home and got behind the wheel--had been dreaming of nailing an astounding $200,000 sale.
"It’s for sale and it’s up in an auction in Brisbane," said Tomic before the deal was done. "It’s a bit disappointing, but what can you do? It’s all gone now. I’m playing tennis and sooner or later I’ll be out of the country."
But a date in court next week will deprive Tomic of the chance to play in the San Jose ATP event as he faces a judge. He is hoping to cross the Pacific for the Memphis tournament.
First up is a Davis Cup zonal date in Geelong, Victoria against China, playing on a side with Lleyton Hewitt.
