Two-time Davis Cup champion Russia will be traveling to Austria for the opening round of Davis Cup this weekend. The nations are set to commence their third meeting on Friday.
Visiting Russia leads host nation Austria 2-0 in the series. The teams are meeting for the first time since 1984.
Captain Shamil Tarpischev has chosen a talented quartet for Russia, which includes Nikolay Davydenko, Alex Bogomolov, Igor Kunitsyn and Mikhail Youzhny.
Russia looks to improve upon its 2011 Davis Cup results, having lost its opener to Sweden, 4-2. As a result of their first-round knockout, the Russians were forced to contest a World Group playoff against Brazil, which ended in favor of the two-time champions, 3-2.
Jurgen Melzer, Andreas Haider-Maurer, Alexander Peya and Oliver Marach are set to compete for captain Clemens Trimmel and host nation Austria.
The 2011 squad suffered a 3-2 first-round defeat to France but rebounded successfully with a 4-1 ousting of Belgium in the World Group playoffs.
