Novak Djokovic is taking no notice of a serve from Croatia, with the tennis world No. 1 off to do a bit of skiing during his current February downtime.
The top player on court and five-time Grand Slam winner was criticized from over a Balkan border by the head of one of neighboring Croatia's top ski racing families.
Ante Kostelic, father of the retired Croatian alpine Olympic and World champions Janica and Ivica was quick to downplay accomplishments on the court compared with those on the slopes. "Anybody can play tennis," Kostelic said "You have all these good tennis players from Venezuela, Peru, Chile and Spain - the skiing circle is much smaller."
While not directly slamming Djokovic, the point was made during a television interview. Djokovic grew up on skis as the son of a mountain restaurant owner but turned to tennis at an early age.
Pere Kostelic added that Djokovic, born in a ski center, "tried skiing, but skiing isn't tennis."
Djokovic laughed off the criticism, announcing that he was off to the slopes: "I plan to do something I haven't done in seven years - go skiing with friends on Kopaonik (Serbia's top ski hill)."
