    2/9/12 8:34 PM | Kelli DeMario
Argentina faces Germany in Davis Cup opener Four-time finalist Argentina is set for an eighth Davis Cup meeting with host nation Germany over the weekend. The German team has elected to contest the tie on an indoor clay-court beginning Friday afternoon.

Argentina has compiled a 5-2 advantage over Germany entering the first round of Davis Cup competition. The two countries are meeting for the first time since 2003, when Argentina breezed through to a 5-0 victory.

Captain Martin Jaite has selected veteran Juan Ignacio Chela, Juan Monaco, Eduardo Schwank and Davis Cup star David Nalbandian for Argentina. Nalbandian, who enters into the tie ranked 84th in the world, will be competing in his 23rd tie this weekend.

Argentina reached a fourth final in 2011 but fell short to world No. 2 Rafael Nadal and team Spain.

For host nation Germany, Patrik Kuhnen's squad includes Florian Mayer, Philipp Kolschreiber, Philipp Petzschner and former world No. 2 Tommy Haas.

Germany is three times a Davis Cup champion, having taken home the top prize in 1988, 1989 and 1993.

Guess Argentina is saving JMDP for later in the year. I'd love to see these guys get back to a final and win one!

Good luck Argentina - both teams look pretty good.

Argentina is not "saving" Del Potro. I'm sure if Del Potro had wanted to play in this Davis Cup tie, Argentina would not have complained!

He needs some rest. Argentina may not even win without him.

Ricky, That was me being funny, and I agree, they need to seal the deal in doubles.

deal sealed
