  • Henman hopes Murray can emulate Djokovic

    2/7/12 10:27 PM | Johan Lindahl
Henman hopes Murray can emulate Djokovic Tim Henman believes Andy Murray is close to following the winning example of Novak Djokovic and moving even higher in the tennis elite.

The former British No. 1 and four-time Wimbledon semifinalist feels it's only a matter of time for world No. 4 Murray, losing semifinalist to Djokovic at the Australian Open.

For Henman, 37, Djokovic has set the perfect example of how to engineer a career breakthrough after dominating the 2011 season with 10 titles, including three of the four majors.

But a year ago, Djokovic was roughly in nearly the same position as Murray right now. "He'd won a single Australian Open (2008)," Henman told British media. "That is mainly the in the position Andy finds himself in now, as world No 3 or 4, and a perennial losing finalist or semifinalist in the Slams."

Henman believes that Murray, now coached by Ivan Lendl but still without a title at a major, could be primed for a move upwards in the Djokovic style. "There are obvious similarities here with Andy, who finds himself behind Djokovic, Nadal and perhaps (Roger) Federer," said Henman. "Being behind the other two players motivated Djokovic to find the solutions. Murray has to do the same."

"I've said for some time that I don't think Andy will win just one Slam, but quite a few. I'm more convinced than ever after the way he played in Melbourne, especially against Djokovic."
