World No. 4 Andy Murray advanced to the round of 32 after taking out France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin in straight sets. The Scot is through to battle veteran Michael Llodra for a place in the round of 16.
Fourth seed Andy Murray continued his bid for a maiden Grand Slam title, having ousted Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-1, 6-4, 6-1. After taking the first two sets, Murray broke to 4-3 in the third. The 24-year-old completed the second-round match with 41 winners and nice aces.
"I served well today (and) obviously got off to a better start," said Murray. "I thought towards the end of the second set, beginning of the third especially, he started playing much better. He was taking the ball early, trying to come to the net, (which) made it difficult.
"Because I served well, I set the point up with my first serve pretty well. (I) got quite a few short replies off of that. That was probably why I hit more winners. The unforced errors were down."
Murray is next to face Frenchman Michael Llodra, who defeated 32nd seed Alex Bogomolov in five sets.

As a leftie MLlodra could pose a problem for AndyM. AndyM hadn`t played RyanH before and said he wasn`t seeing the ball well, started playing a few games. After playing the first set started understanding the patterns of play. With Vasselin AndyM said, once you understand a players pattern, you can anticipate the balls much better, see the shots they are going to hit a lot earlier. However AndyM has been working adding more depth to his forehand, having trust in himself at the net (he has been playing more into the net past two games and he admits himself he`s more comfortable closer to the baseline), also his first serve has improved which has to be good news. Llodra accidently killed a house martin when it flew onto the court in 2002, I remember that game :(

Tennis2011, he did much better in this match than he did in the first match.
I think all the top 3 are playing their way into form. (I haven't seen Novak play.)

TT - where did you lose muzz's points in the rankings (homepage)? Last time I checked he had over 7K. At least let him lose to nole first!

alex, ROFL...nervously we await the Mr Lendl effect...;) Don't know about you but he terrifies the life out of me!

Pleased to see AndyM has an evening slot tomorrow, at least he won`t have to sweat it out in the midday sun!
mojo , 1/20/12 5:25 PM
But mojo, no experience of top court yet....hmm.

Seriously, Murray has not played at RLA yet this year? Wow, so only the top three guys plus the Aussies are scheduled there. I think the ladies top four or five seeds have all played in the RLA.

Lucky ..
I read somewhere that he is liking to play Hisense court and wants to stay there as long as possible so all party is happy :)

Hi Deuce, know what you mean, could be a slow start from AndyM. Coming back from one set down would not be a comfortable place to be in against an attacking player like Llodra. Could be hiding behind my sofa tomorrow! H2H its 2 nil to AndyM, Llodra took one set in the USO 2008, Metz 2007 AndyM won in straight sets
Mind you, if IvanL`s eyes were boring into me it would be enough to move my game up a gear, he`s rather intimidating looking.
Luckstar, yeah bit surprising though Ive read the same article as Man4tennis and probable AndyM would have been more than happy to have played on Hisense again rather than RLA.

deuce - I know, can you believe how muzz is behaving himself! lol. lendl definitely pretty scary. Like Lurch Adams leaning over the balcony! lol
alex , 1/20/12 7:59 PM
Shock horror, if Andy said that he was being diplomatic! He has got to have experience playing on RL before he hits the semis, always providing he makes it of course, just t'aint fair.
No, mojo, no worries, please join me ON the sofa. Am reserving place behind it for Monfils, Tsonga and and the dark lord...shiver...shiver....
deuce , 1/20/12 8:08 PM
mojo, deuce - don't worry, muzz gonna cruise 2moro :) if rafa and the rest don't hang about i might even be up for it.
alex , 1/20/12 8:27 PM
Deuce, Alex - perhaps we are seeing the Lendl effect sooner than expected, the new improved Andy, :) Me I think its good that he`s playing RL tomorrow, like you said he needs the experience before the SFs (keeping everything crossed he gets there!) Hope you are right and tomorrow is done in straight sets. Monfils, Tsonga and NovakD, I`ll defo be behind the sofa with the lights on too!

I think it's interesting that Lendl is seen as so intimidating. Chris Evert talked about it on espn2. She said that she was always nervous around him, thought he was quite intimidating and that he thought he was king. Then Darren Cahill said that he was a much misunderstood player. Thank goodness he said it. I always felt that way.
Lendl came along in an era when tennis was played like a free-for-all. Connors and McEnroe were hardly gentile. In fact, in the documentary, "McEnroe-Borg: Fire and Ice", McEnroe talked about what it was like to play Connors for the first time at Wimbledon. He said that Connors was hostile and would stare him down in the locker room, enough so that he said that the match was lost before he went out on the court! So Lendl didn't have the exclusive rights to intimidation. I think it was a defense mechanism with Lendl. It was his way of surviving. He never acted out on court the way that Nastase, Connors and McEnroe did. He didn't show his emotions.
I am sure that Lendl will have an influence on Andy regarding how he acts on court. It's all for the good. Andy has long needed to minimize the on-court histrionics, cursing, yelling at his box, all of it. This is a waste of energy and also lets your opponent know that you are out of sorts.
Cahill talked about some of the funny things that happened with Lendl. He had this great sense of humor that the public never got to see. I think he and Andy will have a great relationship. Chris Evert said that if Andy started yelling at Lendl in his box, Lendl wouldn't put up with it and would walk out!
Finally, I do think that Andy should play on RL. It's not fair that he has not yet played there.
