David Ferrer was put through his paces by American Ryan Sweeting, with the Spaniard only just prevailing in five sets.
David Ferrer (5) def. Ryan Sweeting 6-7(4), 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3
Despite his loss, American Ryan Sweeting found his game on Thursday against David Ferrer. The third set featured outstanding aggressive baseline play from Sweeting. Outhitting Ferrer is a difficult task, but Sweeting did so. The American couldn’t keep that pace up, however.
Ferrer was able to right the ship in the fourth set and he took advantage of some rookie unforced errors in the fifth to finally secure the win in just under three and a half hours. Ferrer will battle Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Chela in the third round.
Milos Raonic (23) def. Philipp Petzschner 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5
Milos Raonic was not at his best in this second round match. The Canadian relied heavily on his serve to get him out of trouble, though even his ace count (17) was somewhat low for a lengthy four-set match.
The Canadian was able to take advantage of Petzschner’s mistakes on the big points. The fourth set could have gone either way. The German had a trio of break points to go up a break in the seventh game, but he failed to convert. Raonic got the match-winning break at 5-5 after failing to serve out the match at 5-4.
Raonic will take on Australian veteran Lleyton Hewitt in the third round.

Good for Ryan taking David to 5 sets. I'd love to see Harrison and/or Sweeting have a break out year.
