  • Djokovic rolls at Australian Open, Roddick retires

Djokovic rolls at Australian Open, Roddick retires It was business as usual as Novak Djokovic sailed into the third round with a straight-set win over Santiago Giraldo.

    Novak Djokovic (1) def. Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 6-2, 6-1

Defending champion Novak Djokovic put in another strong performance on his quest to repeat his run to the title. With another easy early-round match, the Serb will have plenty of energy left for the business end of the tournament.

Colombian Santiago Giraldo, ranked 56th in the world, was only able to keep up with Djokovic for half of the first set. Once Djokovic secured the lead, Giraldo was simply overrun by his power. The world No. 1 finished the match with nine aces and two double-faults. He will take on Nicolas Mahut in the third round.

Lleyton Hewitt def. Andy Roddick (15) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 (ret.)

Andy Roddick was in control of this match until he suffered a leg injury that severely limited his mobility. The American made a valiant attempt to finish out the match, but the injury would not allow it. Hewitt will move into the third round where he will take on the big-serving Canadian Milos Raonic.
