American Mardy Fish became the first big seed to fall as the No. 8 was sent packing at the hands of Alejandro Falla.
Alejandro Falla def. Mardy Fish (8) 7-6(4), 6-3, 7-6(6)
No. 8 seed Mardy Fish put in a shaky performance in his second-round loss to Colombia's Alejandro Falla. After dropping the first set, the American got progressively more aggravated. After securing but also giving up a pair of service breaks in the opening set, Fish came up short in the tiebreaker.
Falla controlled the second set completely. The Colombian, who also had Federer on the ropes at Wimbledon back in 2010 before going down in five, held his composure and secured the second set 6-3.
The heat of the midday sun began to affect Falla, who called for a trainer to treat some cramping. Though his opponent was up two sets, Fish complained about the tactics with agitation on a number of changeovers.
The American pushed the third set to a tiebreaker and even saved a pair of match points, but he played dismally on the last two points of the match to give Falla the straight-set victory.
With Fish's exit from the tournament, Roger Federer's next highest seed in his quarter is Juan Martin Del Potro, who advanced in straight sets against Blaz Kavcic. The Swiss, himself, moved into the third round without stepping foot on court on a walkover from Andreas Beck (lower back).

^^^^ Karlovic will not be an easy opponent. But even if it goes to tiebreaks Roger still has the upperhand.
Roger is a safe bet until the quarters maybe semis as del potro looks far from impressive.

No good for Federer. Playing his next rounds without matches on his belt is something I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have desired.
