    1/18/12 7:07 PM | Cheryl Murray
Del Potro, Tomic into Aussie Open third round After another slow start, Juan Martin Del Potro rallied to defeat Blaz Kavcic in straight sets. Also moving on was Australia’s Bernard Tomic.

Juan Martin Del Potro (11) def. Blaz Kavcic 6-4, 7-5, 6-3

It took a while for Juan Martin Del Potro to get going in this second round encounter. The Argentine was down a break in the opening set, but he came back in a big way to defeat Slovenia’s Blaz Kavcic in straight sets.

Del Potro looked out of sorts in his first round match, but his forehand and especially his serve really started clicking against Kavcic. The 11th seed struck 14 aces and served at 64% for the match.

The win sends Del Potro another step closer to a possible quarterfinal showdown with Roger Federer, a matchup more likely since No. 8 seed Mardy Fish was knocked out of tournament by Alejandro Falla.

    Bernard Tomic def. Sam Querrey 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-3

Australia’s new tennis hero Bernard Tomic took battled back from a set down against American Sam Querrey. Tomic had a slow start; he didn’t manage to make a dent on the American’s serve in the first set. The set was decided by a single break of the Tomic serve.

With the crowd behind him, Tomic rebounded in the second set. The Aussie secured a pair of service breaks, weathering four aces from Querrey to level the match at a set apiece. Querrey put up a fight in the third set, but he could not withstand Tomic’s court craft.

Tomic will move into the third round, where he will battle Alexandr Dolgopolov.

Tomic plays an awesome tennis. Really love seeing him play. A lot of people call him just a pusher... lol. He is one of the most unpredictable player I have ever seen.
