    Tsonga advances, Simon survives in five Sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is through to the second round following his four-set win over Denis Istomin. The Frenchman is joined in round two by compatriot Gilles Simon, who outlasted qualifier Danai Udomchoke.

    Former finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga made a successful start to the tournament, having ousted Denis Istomin in four sets. The world No. 6 converted six of 9 break points, through to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win in an hour and 54 minutes. He completed the day with 11 aces and 44 winners.

    Tsonga will take on Ricardo Mello for a spot in the third round. The Brazilian defeated Roberto Bautista-Agut in round one, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.

    (12) Gilles Simon def. (Q) Danai Udomchoke 6-1, 3-6, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2

    Twelfth seed Gilles Simon survived a difficult opening-round with qualifier Danai Udomchoke on Tuesday. The Frenchman rallied from a 2-1 set deficit to seal the win in three hours and 20 minutes. He ended the match with 14 aces, 53 winners and 10 breaks of serve.

    Simon is scheduled to face fellow Frenchman Julien Benneteau in the next round. The veteran dismissed Karol Beck in straight sets.
