Marcos Baghdatis advanced to the final four in Sydney after dismissing top seed Juan Martin Del Potro in straight sets. The Cypriot is joined by qualifier Denis Istomin who took out third seed Richard Gasquet.

World No. 43 Marcos Baghdatis is through to the semifinals following his straight-set victory over top seed Juan Martin Del Potro. The Argentine had chances to close at 5-4 and at 6-4 in the tiebreaker in the opening set, but failed to do so. Baghdatis completed the winning effort with 12 aces and 72% of his second-service points won.
"I played some great tennis today," said Baghdatis. "(I’m) happy the way I'm playing. It's a great victory for me. I know I can beat anybody. I've beaten the best before. I think if I continue working on this aggressive play and the way I played today, I'm going to win more matches and (beat) bigger opponents."
He is scheduled to take on Julien Benneteau for a place in the final. The Frenchman defeated Alex Bogomolov in the quarterfinal, 6-2, 6-4.

Qualifier Denis Istomin reached the final four on Thursday, having upended third seed Richard Gasquet in straight sets. The 25-year-old collected 8 aces and three service breaks, through to a quarterfinal victory in an hour and 52 minutes.
Istomin will face qualifier Jarkko Nieminen in the semifinals. The Finn downed fellow qualifier Bobby Reynolds in the quarterfinal, 6-3, 6-3.
