Lleyton Hewitt's management has said that the long-time battler won't be making any retirement plans as he competes in his 16th Australian Open.
Despite the trouble that a dodgy left big toe has been giving him for almost a year and its dramatic effect on his results, the 31-year-old is set to carry on in the game.
Hewitt's manager told Melbourne's Herald Sun that the former No. 1 would carry on until he couldn't play anymore. "There's been no discussion about this being Lleyton's last Australian Open," said manager David Drysdale.
"He plans to play a normal schedule and, after the Australian Open, he's got Davis Cup against China in Geelong and he's already accepted wildcards into San Jose and Memphis. The desire is still there - in fact, his desire is the strongest that I've seen.
"He will continue to play for as long as the desire is there. Technically, injury could affect any player, not just Lleyton."
Hewitt has gone 1-3 so far this season, winning a round at the Hopman Cup over No. 420 Wu Di of China but exiting this week at the Sydney International where he won four titles. He played only 20 matches last season and won his last title in June 2010 in Halle, Germany.
