World No. 11 Juan Martin Del Potro makes his return to competition for the second week of January, as the ATP World Tour continues its 2012 season in Sydney. The Argentine enters the Apia International as the top seed.
World No. 11 Juan Martin Del Potro will commence 2012 with his second appearance at the Apia International Sydney. The 23-year-old completed his 2011 comeback season with title-winning efforts in Delray Beach and Estoril.
Del Potro headlines a competitive half of the draw that includes (4) Feliciano Lopez, (5) Viktor Troicki and (7) Marcel Granollers. Additional combatants in the section are Marcos Baghdatis, Andreas Seppi, Alex Bogomolov Jr., Julien Benneteau and former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt.
After an opening-round bye, the top seed will face either Ivan Dodig or Lukasz Kubot.
First-time entrant John Isner is slated to top the bottom half of the draw this week. The American has been placed in the same half as (3) Richard Gasquet, (6) Florian Mayer and (8) Radek Stepanek. Other players in his section include Pablo Andujar, Fabio Fognini, Gilles Muller and Xavier Malisse.
Following an first-round bye, Isner will meet either Sergiy Stakhovsky or qualifier Bobby Reynolds.
