1/6/12 4:08 AM | Cheryl Murray
Top seed Andy Murray will face his toughest test of the week in the form of Marcos Baghdatis as the Scot eyes the semifinals.
Andy Murray (1) vs. Marcos Baghdatis
Andy Murray is ranked fourth in the world and Marcos Baghdatis sits at No. 44, but that hasn’t stopped the Cypriot from amassing a 3-2 record over the Scot. The two men met twice back in 2011 and split the wins at one each, with Murray taking the most recent meeting just a couple of months ago in Tokyo.
Murray might find he has his hands full with this matchup. The top seed has dropped a set in each of his other two matches leading up to the quarters. Baghdatis has already proven that he can give Murray trouble – and Murray hasn’t really been at his best so far this week.
This might well result in an upset win for Baghdatis if the Cypriot plays well.
Bernard Tomic (8) vs. Denis Istomin
Australian hopeful Bernard Tomic has been making his way up the ranks, with a notable quarterfinal result at last year’s Wimbledon. The Aussie teen struggled at the tail-end of the 2011 season, but he has been in good form in Brisbane so far.
His Friday opponent will be Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan. He is ranked 73rd in the world and his time is split between the main tour and the Challenger tour.
Prediction – To the delight of his countrymen, Tomic should find himself in the semifinals.

Trust Andy to have a stress free "on the sofa" kind of match while his UK fans were a-bed! Never mind, I forgive him..;)
Come on!
