The coaching situation of Andy Murray appears to be as complex as ever despite the hiring of Ivan Lendl, with reports indicating that adidas consultant Darren Cahill will also be available to advise the Scot.
Murray was without a coach for 18 months, guided by his roving band of mates, advisors and physios. But losses in the last two Australian Open finals may have finally pushed the 24-year-old over the edge, with eight-time Grand Slam champion Lendl arriving in Australia to guide his man.
It is the first coaching experience for the 51-year-old, the new team will pair two relatively dour personalities in No. 4 player and coach. But Australian Cahill, who helps any adidas player who requests it, may also still be in the mix.
But the US-based mentor prefers to remain well in the background, and will let Lendl do the heavy lifting. "Getting a good person alongside like Ivan is crucial is for Andy," said Cahill. "It's time for them to get to know each other and they need their space."
Cahill has already knocked back an offer to coach Murray full-time, preferring to keep his lucrative American television commentary work.
But the Aussie was on the inside of negotiations between Murray and Lendl. "I was there at the first meeting in Miami last month," he told London's Times. "We sat down for three hours talking about tennis and I thought Ivan was inspiring.
"The fact he has never coached before is irrelevant. He understands the sport and the way he used to go about his game was the benchmark of a professional athlete. Whether it lasts six months or six years, Andy will be a better player and person for it."

Cahill is just going to be around for a short transition period. He has commentary commitments at AO so he can't coach Andy then. Ivan will only be around for slams and some majors. Cahill maybe around for some others, who knows. Nobody is treading on anybody's toes.
