    Chennai - Tipsarevic, Almagro reach quarterfinal Top seed Janko Tipsarevic is through to the final eight in Chennai following his straight-set victory over wildcard Yuki Bhambri. The Serbian is joined by Nicolas Almagro, who advanced after Steve Darcis pulled out with injury.

    (1) Janko Tipsarevic def. (WC) Yuki Bhambri 6-1, 6-3

    World No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic won his first match of the season, having ousted wildcard Yuki Bhambri on Thursday. The 27-year-old secured four of four break points through to a 6-1, 6-3 victory in 62 minutes. Tipsarevic completed the winning effort with five aces and eight consecutive service games held.

    He will take on David Goffin for a place in the semifinals. The Belgian rallied to upend Andreas Beck in the second round, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

    (2) Nicolas Almagro def. Steve Darcis (walkover)

    Second seed Nicolas Almagro reached the quarterfinal following the withdrawal of opponent Steve Darcis. The Belgian was unable to compete due to a shoulder injury.

    Up next for Almagro is qualifier Yuichi Sugita, who took out Yen-Hsun Lu in round two.
