• Murray and Tomic in Brisbane night action

    1/4/12 2:57 AM | Cheryl Murray
Murray and Tomic in Brisbane night action Headliners Andy Murray and Bernard Tomic will take the court in an action-packed night session at the Brisbane International.

Andy Murray (1) vs. Gilles Muller

World No. 4 Andy Murray had a rusty start to his Brisbane International campaign. The Scot dropped the first set to Mikhail Kukushkin, before finding his form and winning the match in 3. His next opponent is the big server from Luxembourg, Gilles Muller.

The two men have met once before just last year in Davis Cup. Murray won that encounter in routine straight sets. Muller has a huge first serve, but that isn’t much of a weapon against a returner of Murray’s caliber.

Prediction – Murray should advance comfortably.

    Bernard Tomic vs. Tatsuma Ito

Australia’s new tennis hope Bernard Tomic will take on Japan’s Tatsuma Ito for the second time in just a few months. The two men last met in Tokyo, where Tomic dropped a set before closing out the match 7-5 in the third.

Ito is ranked 122 in the world, far below Tomic’s 42 but he appears to have the game to give the Aussie some trouble.

Tomic has the big advantage of playing in front of the home crowd in the prime time slot. The young Australian should pull through, but don’t be surprised if Ito makes a match of it.

Tomic with another good win.. I don't think anyone of the Top 8 likes the prospect of drawing him in the first round at the AO.

Yes, that was a flat-out drubbing. Tomic is going to be an absolute menace in Melbourne.

*Crawling out from under sofa* but a delicious smell of baking in the end :)

Murray might not scrape through baghdatis or tomic playing like this.

let's not overreact to a win over TATSUMA ITO

bleck: 6-0 in third is not "scraping through." Besides this guy has troubled Rafa b4 now.
Ricky, although I think Tomic is a huge talent, am inclined to agree with you on this one. Do hope his mad dad doesn't screw up his future.

by the sounds of it, so glad i missed this one. too too early in the year for behindthe sofa:-(
it'll be interesting to see what comes of tomic in the longer term, but in the meantime I'm glad muss has baggie first, although I have to say i'd have rathered nishikori despite his higher seeding.
