Roger Federer remains confident of maintaining his 17-match win streak from last season as he begins the new campaign of defending his title at the Doha ATP event.
"It takes a little bit of adjustment, but you can definitely take confidence from the end of the year and just carry it over because you're in a good mindset," said the Swiss who cleared the table to end 2011 with three straight titles.
"You just believe you're doing the right things in the court. You're not second guessing yourself. Confidence is a huge part of our life sometimes as a tennis player," said Federer.
"I'm ready for a good season. I feel energised, ready to go. Even though 2011 was long and tough, I had a nice break and great preparation, and I'm really eager for another season, so that's good."
The 30-year-old is looking for his first Grand Slam title since winning the Australian Open in January, 2010, his record career 16th.

Game set and match, that was quick! Whats the record for the quickest match?

Federer seems to be in ominous form
Why was he pathetic in the exhibitions then against Novak and Rafa?
Just 2 days and such a turnaround
sanju , 1/3/12 8:27 PM
Federer switched on Semi-God mode tonight. He doesn't care much for exhibitions to put in 110% (Rolex mode). Now its down to the real business.

sanju, Davy is no Rafa and Nole.
nadline , 1/3/12 9:01 PM
85% 1st serve percentage. It doesn't matter who was on the other side of the net.
bleck , 1/3/12 9:17 PM
Federer played well. But Davy wasn't offering to much resistance. I don't think this is a good parameter to see what is Roger's level at now.

18 and counting!!!.... bleck.... what are you counting???
zare , 1/3/12 10:18 PM
@mojo... don't know about record....but he needed 54 min. to win over Davy... but only 44 min to be destroyed by Nole :))

"18 and counting!!!.... bleck.... what are you counting???"
The number of abu dhabi titles, aka the 5th slam, djokovic will have when he retires.
bleck , 1/3/12 10:45 PM
LoL...bleck... good for you if you understand what are you talking :)
Don't you worry about Nole's titles...
zare , 1/3/12 11:36 PM
^^^^ I'm really afraid that djokovic might surpass Roger in slam wins especially given he has already won 1 this year. I think Abu Dhabi will be a lock for djokovic in years to come.

I can't see Roger taking the AO if he meets Novak and Rafa when they are near their best. He will need a lot of luck to go his way, be it the weather, kinder scheduling, fitness of his opponents and his mindset when he goes on court. This goes for all major tournaments he enters now.

"Djkovich might surpass Roger in slam wins given he has already won 1 this year"
lol Nole is SO superhuman these days, he is now winning slams in advance...;)
deuce , 1/4/12 3:44 PM
When are the twins going to start watching their Dad. Roger doesn't want to leave it too late, I think this year might be his last year to impress them.
nadline , 1/4/12 5:43 PM
19 and counting... Go Roger. We'll take the usual against seppi.
