    Tipsarevic, Almagro lead field in Chennai World No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic returns to hard-court action for the first week of January, as the ATP World Tour kicks off its 2012 season in Chennai. The top seed is joined by Nicolas Almagro, who enters the draw as the second seed.

    World No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic will commence the 2012 season with his sixth appearance at the Aircel Chennai Open. The 27-year-old completed 2011 with a 54-26 record, aided by title-winning runs in Moscow and Kuala Lumpur.

    Tipsarevic headlines a competitive half of the draw that includes: (3) defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka, (5) Ivan Dodig and (7) Xavier Malisse. Additional entrants in the section are: Andreas Beck, Karol Beck, Somdev Devvarman and Frederico Gil.

    After a first-round bye, the top seed will face either wildcard Yuki Bhambri or Karol Beck.

    World No. 10 Nicolas Almagro is slated to make his debut at the event this week. The Spaniard has been placed in the same half as (4) Milos Raonic, (6) Fabio Fognini and (8) Olivier Rochus. Other players in his section include: Dudi Sela, Victor Hanescu, Sam Querrey and Pere Riba.

    Following an opening-round bye, Almagro will meet either Steve Darcis or Blaz Kavcic.
