1/1/12 3:12 AM | Cheryl Murray
World No. 4 Andy Murray is the top seed and headliner of the Australian Open tune-up event in Brisbane, with young Aussie Bernard Tomic also on the bill.
While Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer battle it out in Doha, Andy Murray sits alone as the only member of the four-man tennis elite in Brisbane.
Murray will surely be the favorite in the field of 32. The number two is struggling Frenchman Gilles Simon, while hard-hitting Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov sits at No 3.
The crowd is likely to get securely behind Australia’s newest tennis star, Bernard Tomic, who advanced to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon last year as a qualifier.
Tomic is ranked 42nd in the world, however, and he struggled mightily in the second half of the 2010 season.
Popular Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis is lurking in Murray’s half of the draw, but the Scot should come through with the first title of the season.
