Rafael Nadal and family have done a bit of pre-holiday financial housekeeping, with the world No. 2 and his uncle - the former FC Barcelona defender Miguel Angel Nadal - selling their 10 per cent stake in local football side Real Mallorca.
The Nadals made their investment on an emergency basis to help the club out of a temporary financial bind. in November, 2010, with the intention always to sell the shares. The buyer was German businessman Utz Claassen, who now owns a 20 per cent stake in the club, which is currently in financial administration.
The sale will likely be a huge relief to the senior Nadal after the former footballer clashed with board members last autumn. Rafael Nadal has always been noted as a Real Madrid fan, most recently attending the massive derby between Real and arch rival Barcelona. Mallorca currently stand 14th place in Spain's La Liga.
Miguel Angel Nadal would be particularly pleased to be out of the deal after a short spell on the coaching staff - cut short due to his criticism of the board in the sacking of Danish coach and former player Michael Laudrup.
