The "virtual" version of Rafael Nadal will be pressed into service by sponsor Bacardi drinks as a contest for fans to try and match their game online with the world No. 2.
The Spaniard gets underway to fill in time during the brief December tennis gap, stretching through into the opening months of the New Year.
The competition will allow Nadal fans worldwide to "compete" on serve with the 10-time Grand Slam winner using a RoboServ 3000 computer program.
The program uses artificial intelligence technology to calculate Nadal’s position and optimise the speed, spin and distance of contestants’ serves. The campaign is part of Bacardi and Nadal’s “Champions Drink Responsibly” social responsibility initiative.
Anyone over 21 can enter the initiative with the objective of keeping pace with "Robo-Rafa."
Those who can ace the virtual Spaniard are automatically entered into a drawing with the prize a visit to the champion's hometown of Mallorca for a meeting with Rafa in person.
"I hope my fans enjoy this unique chance to play against me,” Nadal said in a statement. “Drinking responsibly is a serious message and I believe we will reach and influence more people with this important message by expressing it in a more lighthearted and interactive way.”

nadline,
Are you for real? You are going to do this? Well, I guess so given that the prize is a trip to Mallorca to meet Rafa in person!

That's the incentive, isn't it?

Nothing against rafa, but I'd do it just for the trip to Mallorca. :)
