The Federer Factor has sent Swiss Davis Cup sales through the roof as the Europeans prepare to host the US in western Fribourg at the February 10-12 first-round tie.
The box office was sparked as the No. 3 confirmed an open secret that he would tailor his February schedule to make sure he fronted up for his nation after leading it back into the World Group in September with a defeat of Australia in Sydney on grass.
The decision means that Federer is almost surely out of the Dubai event at his Gulf training base. He is also committed in the middle of the month to play at Rotterdam, returning after a seven-year absence to the Dutch port city.
"I'm delighted to play, especially with the strong support that awaits us at home ", said Federer in a statement. "We had a great year (Switzerland returned to the World Group) and the atmosphere and team spirit is excellent. "
Federer will head a team comprising Stanislas Wawrinka and others to be chosen by captain Severin Luethi, also a coach of Federer.
Federer will be part of a Swiss first-round Davis tie for the first time since 2004 as he plays in his 21st career tie.
