The losing Argentine Davis Cup coach is gone, with Tito Vazquez sacked within days of his nation being over-run by Spain 3-1. Now it looks like Albert Costa, the Spanish skipper, may be pondering his future options.
With the 2012 no-show vows from Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez, five-time champion Spain may have to go to Plan B for the event in 2012. The busy players say they can't work in the annual Davis event during an Olympic year and expect to retain any form.
Dpa has reported that Carlos Moya could be the man to step in if Costa gives up the job after leading the nation to a pair of Davis titles in three seasons.
Moya, the 1998 French Open champion and one-time No. 1, is hesitant to make any remarks, given that he is a good friend of the current captain. "Speaking of this topic makes me uncomfortable," "Charley" confessed to dpa, "I know there are rumours, but I do not have received anything directly on this from the federation. Albert is one of my best friends."
The Spanish press are running with the story, with the tabloid Marca tipping Moya to take control. "The important thing now is if Albert wants to or not as captain. To this we must wait before anything else," said Moya. "But Spain have enough more than enough players to field a Davis Cup squad.
"We are always the favourites playing at home," Moya added, with Spain next facing Kazakhstan in Spain in February. "There is a very good team which can be formed."

I can't think of any reason why Carlos wouldn't be an excellent choice for DC captain. He knows a little bit about tennis, particularly Spanish tennis, and he's an all around nice guy.
