Juan Martin Del Potro will add his Latin flair to next month's Sydney event, starting his 2012 season one week before the Australian Open.
The Davis Cup finalist will have had barely a month off when he starts the grind all over again.
It will be the second year that the 2009 US Open champion plays the Sydney event, joining former top 10 colleagues Lleyton Hewitt and Marcos Baghdatis in the draw.
Del Potro played the tournament on a wild card last January as he continued a comeback from wrist surgery. The New South Wales capital is a special place for the South American. "They gave me one of the first wildcards after my injury and I appreciate this very much.
"I hope I can do very well in January because the tournament has a great history and tradition and a lot of players from Argentina have played in it and done very well."
Del Potro, who started last season at 258th, now stands on the edge of the Top 10 at 11th. He won trophies in Delray Beach in February and Estoril but ended 2011 on a low note with this month's Davis Cup finals loss to Spain. Del Potro's defeat by Rafael Nadal sealed his country's fate on the final day.
