Andy Murray may have to rely a bit less on tournament scouting reports from his ever-ready mum Judy after she was appointed to head the British women's Fed Cup team.
Judy Murray, a longtime coach who got her two sons Andy and Jamie started in the game despite living in the tennis wasteland of Scotland, will become a high-profile member of the Lawn Tennis Association team.
Reports of the appointment had been in the wind for some weeks after the last coach, Nigel Sears, left the position after Wimbledon to become personal coach for Ana Ivanovic on the WTA.
No. 4 Murray is currently planning his December training block in steamy Miami where he owns two flats. The Scot's season ended on a down note last month when he was forced to quit the World Tour Finals with a groin injury after playing - and losing - only one group match.
Judy Murray was quick with a canned statement on her excitement at getting the presumably well-paying position, "It's a huge honour for me to represent my country in this way, and the role presents a very exciting challenge, given the mix of talent, experience and determination we have in our top female players right now.
"I'm also really looking forward to working with the LTA to develop a bigger and stronger female coaching workforce."
Murray served as a Scottish national coach for nine years and hopes that the current generation of British women will provide some competition in the international teams competition.

This is a win-win situation. Good for Judy and good for Andy.

Defo good for both of them. I do think however think some of the press JudyM gets is gender related, its normally the dads who are more to the fore in their kids tennis careers.
