David Ferrer overcomes Juan Martin Del Potro in five sets on Friday in the Davis Cup final's second singles rubber. As a result, the host Spaniards are ahead 2-0.
Spain is one win away from clinching the 2012 Davis Cup title after David Ferrer outlasted Juan Martin Del Potro 6-2, 6-7(2), 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Friday in Sevile. Four hours and 46 minutes from the start of the second singles rubber, the Spaniards held a 2-0 lead over Argentina.
Del Potro recovered from a disappointing first set to suddenly take a one-set lead of his own after the third. When he could not close it out in four, however, the tide turned.
Looking sprightly as ever, Ferrer wore down his opponent and raced to a 5-1 lead in the fifth. Never one to go down without a fight, Del Potro managed to break back and then hold for 3-5. With the match on his racket for a second time, though, Ferrer made no mistake and served it for victory.
"He took all the opportunities to close the match and he made it really really difficult for me," Del Potro said of Ferrer. "All the points were very long and that’s the way he likes it. I felt that there was a guy against me that was doing a spectacular game. He has had a spectacular season, and nobody has given the victory as a gift to him. He's earned it."
Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco can give Spain the trophy with a doubles victory on Saturday. They are going up against David Nalbandian and Eduardo Schwank.

What an exciting match and what a great win for David. He is such a warrior - love and respect his attitude a lot. People underestimate him but he did finish 5th this year in the ATP rankings. He has worked very hard for what he has achieved.
Hope he has a well earned rest and I look forward to seeing him do well again next year.
