Roger Federer has secured another personal triumph by completing a hat-trick of titles to end the 2011 ATP season with a full head of steam.
The Swiss swept Basel, Paris and the World Tour Finals in London to wrap up 2011 with four trophies and he is eager for 2012 to begin. His 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3 defeat of Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was impressive even by his own standards.
"This was the strongest finish I've ever had in my career, which I'm very proud of," said the winner of a 70th trophy from his 100th final. "I'm looking forward to next year. So I'm really excited. I felt like I played great during these last few weeks. I felt I played great here in London. It gives me a lot of confidence for next year.
"But regardless of how it went here, I would have been in a good state of mind for next year," added the 30-year-old, first man to lift six year-end trophies.
Left lagging and hurt were Federer's three main rivals, with Novak Djokovic tapped out and injured after winning ten titles, dispirited Rafael Nadal seeking fresh motivation, and Andy Murray nursing a groin strain which drove him out of the London season wrap-up after one defeat.
"I think I'm mentally good right now," said Federer. "That was also one of the reasons why I did take some time off, to actually think it through, to get into the right mental mindset. There is a lot of time that goes by out on tour, during a match, you're just trying to stay positive, but you can't always be positive out there. It's just too difficult.
"That's where maybe the doubts were just a bit too strong during certain important moments."

Nice way to add 3000 points in a month. Very impressive!

Excuse me newfangkc, you wish to celebrate Fed's triumph that's your problem but please DONT pick up the bad habit from sienna, and quote my name in vain. FYI, I'm neither American nor European, and I love Rafa not because of the fist pumping or whatever. Please do not generalize all Rafa fans. It doesn't mean that every tennis fan has to like Fed. There's more to tennis than just shot making abilities or 'graceful' tennis. Not very nice of you to bad mouth some Rafa fans here when this thread is about Fed.

This last month really salvaged the season for Roger. Too bad he didn't win any slam but I think he has a good chance to do so next year.
Can't wait for 2012.

Roger has the most slams and he has now the most WTF title in history.
There you have it the tournements where he concentrates the hardest, where he wants to perform well and be at his peak. Physically and mentally he focusses to be at his top there in those 5 tournements. Als it is the place where the opponents try to be at their very best, they also want to win skams, WTF. Tsonga explainend he would break his to feeth if that is what is would take to win the match. He was referring ofcourse about WTF final.
Roger won his first major title in 2003 and we are now entering 2012. That is 9 years of winning major trofee. He won 22 of the possible 45 (well 43 if you do not count AU open/Garros before his first wimbly) The man wins 50% of those major trofee during that span.
He is a living legend and still shows those youngsters who's boss.

2011 certainly had its ups and downs, but despite it all, Roger's the one who's had the strongesst year-ending. I have this gut feeling that these wins are the propulsion fuel Fed needed to re-assert himself back into the top 3, enroute to No. 1. Watch out djoker. Rog is not just hanging in there due to ranking points, but is definitely stirring things up and putting some serious thought provoking questions into the minds of Nadal and jokovic. Out of all the players on tour, I believe djokovic is aware that Roger should be the one to be most feared, and djokovic indeed fears Roger. I think we'll se Roger win The AO come January. If he indeed wins, he will definitely silence the nay-sayers whereby they'll be rethinking their position on athletes who are over 30.

scoretracker, We all know how tennis experts and fans tend to dismiss players rather quickly. It happened to Roger in 2008 and nadal in 2009. A victory at the AO would definitely show that Roger still has it. We already know it but some people can't see it.
Despite all the sucess Roger has had recently they say it's best of 3, he didn't play the top players, etc. Excuses.
The victory at the AO would silence them for a while.
This situation kind of reminds me of the djokovic-nadal this year.
After the first wins at IW and miami the experts and nadal fans said djokovic only won because it was best of 3 on hardcourt, then he beat nadal on clay in madrid but it was only because of the altitude, then at rome but it was still best of 3 "no way would djokovic" beat nadal on a best of 5 especially wimbledon since grass isn't a surface djokovic is comfrotable with. We know what happened.
Roger's last tournaments give a strong message out to the other top players. He is back at his best and he is one of the favourites for the AO.
Roger was reached the semis at the AO for the past 8 consecutive years so I expect him to reach at least this stage.
Then if he meets djokovic it will be a hell of a match, I think it's 50-50.
If he meets nadal I think he has a slight edge.
So all in all a very good prospect for the AO.

Roger and murray are done for in 2012!!
Simon Reed, the master jinxer, just predicted Roger and murray to "clean up in 2012". You all know what that means...

Roger is boring becase he does not fistpump and he does not scream and the Nadlines, the Luckystars and Fhoenix want him to do that but there is a bit of a difference between the Europeans and the lousy Americans in Tennis an they have lost almost everything after Sampras and Agassi. And if there vwas anybody as charismatic and worthy as Roger was the great J Mac. He might have been voilatile but he was the best I knew before I saw Becker, Lendle, Borg, Willander and that secod serve assasin Edberg. We have some lousy players like Bruguera, Chang- good god that we did not see that Mac droped his pants and of all the worthies Philiposis. What a turarround. Get the best in 2012 and drown my Hero if you can. Nadal- Vamos. Djoker-repeat if you can. Tsongi u can do it but be calnm. Andy , I don't know what is your problem- get a good girl. Roger, why don't you hang your Racket because you have got one too many.
