  • Nadal knows he has to lift for Davis Cup final

    11/26/11 3:15 PM | Johan Lindahl
Nadal knows he has to lift for Davis Cup final While he expects to recover his confidence after exiting the ATP World Tour Finals in the group stage after a 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-3 loss in London to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Rafael Nadal appears to be missing some of his swagger.

The Spaniard has confessed that if he cannot regain championship form in time for next weekend's Davis Cup final against Argentina in Seville, he might not be picked to take his expected place on the host side.

"I'll try my best every day to try to win the Davis Cup for my country," said the winner of three titles this season, including a sixth French Open. "But I'm lucky, the team is not only myself.

"If I'm not in the right condition, the captain can choose another player."

That drastic scenario would be unlikely to happen given how much Nadal wants to bounce back as he makes a nostalgic return to his preferred surface. "I'm going to be a week practicing on clay. Even if I am not playing perfect, the surface help me.

"Sometimes it's a little bit more about confidence, sometimes little bit more about the movement. I was a little bit slower than usual this week - because my mind wasn't perfect, so the reaction was late."

Nadal will be joined for Spain by teammate David Ferrer, a London semifinalist this week.

"On clay I have more time to think," said Nadal. "The movements are a little bit easier for me. I'm going to have the right team there supporting me and I'll be practicing hard."

So they would pick Nico over Rafa on clay? Too funny. Don't think they will need mind games to beat Argentina on clay.

Yeah this guy is the only one arround to hurt the best because he is the one who is no less than the best and in fact he continures to be the Holy Grail for Roger to unearth and the rest can wait in the wings the Tsongas the Itches the Scots, the Aussies, the Serbs and the Cheks and the Sweeds. The Alps is standing tall, in fact very tall.

Who upset Rafa?

Rafa never takes it for granted that he'll be picked so nothing new.
