  • Tsonga knocks Nadal out of Finals

    11/25/11 3:46 AM | Cheryl Murray
Tsonga knocks Nadal out of Finals Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won a tough 3-setter to take out 2010 finalist Rafael Nadal and to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

This was a hard-fought match from both men. Rafael Nadal continued to fight throughout the match, even after he went down 2 breaks of serve in the third set.

The first set was fairly evenly matched. Tsonga seemed to perform a bit better on Nadal’s serve, but the Spaniard was able to hold him off to force the tiebreaker. Tsonga served better in the tiebreaker which held Nadal to just 3 points.

The second set appeared headed for a breaker also. Both players held serve until Tsonga stepped up to the line at 4-5 to stay in the set. Nadal poured on pressure and broke Tsonga to remain in the match.

The match momentum did not stay with Nadal long. Tsonga quickly darted out to a two-break lead and served for the match at 5-2. Nadal broke in a final push, but the Frenchman came right back to break Nadal again for the win.

Congrats to Tsonga, well done!

Snippets of Rafa's post match interview:

?I had little bit less passion for the game probably because I was a little bit more tired than usual,? Nadal, 25, told reporters when asked why his form has dipped since losing to Djokovic in the U.S. Open final

?This year was a tough year for me,? said Nadal, the winner of 10 Grand Slam singles titles. ?It was positive for some moments, but at the same time was hard for other moments. I have to accept what happened during the whole season.?

Against Tsonga, Nadal said he struggled mentally.

?I was a little bit slower than usual because my mind wasn?t perfect, so the reaction was late,? said Nadal, who played two meters behind the baseline in the first set as Tsonga overpowered him with ground strokes and serves as fast as 136 miles-per-hour (219 kph).

Rafa goes on to say he has lost some of his passion for tennis................

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 5:25 AM

No doubt his losses to Djokovic has a lot to do with his loss of passion for tennis. I'm sure he will bounce back when he gets back that winning feeling. Next year is going to be interesting. Can Novak maintain his No. 1 status? Will Rafa go into a slump in motivation and confidence? Will Roger be back in the GS winner's circle? Murray, who knows..

cable , 11/25/11 6:31 AM

For me, Rafa needs a looooong rest but that's the conundrum for tennis players, isn't it? Take a long rest and risk losing your feel/touch or continue playing and make the exhastion worse!

Anyway, he is a professional, he knows the answers better than us..................

Vamos!!!

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 6:50 AM

I remember saying that it was not wise to play start playing in the WTF as the first tournament after a long break . its just unwise . Facing top eight immediately ...thsi is what happens ..you not only get booted physically ..but mentally .

For him to say he lost his passion after a long break is just amazing !

my only question is does he feel his level of tennis has dropped or everyone around him are playing better against him that he is lost ..

anyways 2012 is going to be interesting ...its like a soap opera drama now .... :p
I hope he finds him passion again ....it'll be sad c'in a 25 year old , GS champ say i aint got no interest ...just sad ...

breakpoint , 11/25/11 7:29 AM

That is why federer is extraordinary in this department. He has more of a preventive approach to injury managment. He doesnt turn up for tourneys not because he is injured but more to avoid being injured if there is a risk of one. He probably is one of the longest serving on the tour and still seems fresh as a twenty year old. He has an approach of restraint a zen kind of approach to simplicity to his style of play being effective while being efficient.

It took someone like Nadal with that kind of play to really challenge Federer but at the expense of being burnt out long before ones time. Federers approach now seems to be to outlive these young stars not on the field but from a career standpoint and then start raking in trophies again.

nirv02 , 11/25/11 7:44 AM

What I'm going to say should not be misinterpreted as Rafa being scared of Nole, but I feel that not being 100% mentally focussed and obviously rusty after his long break he doesn't feel he is ready to avenge his losses against Nole and perhaps the possibility of playing him when he (Rafa) is clearly not at his best made him less inclined to push himself against Tsonga.

ed, Happy Birthday!

nadline , 11/25/11 8:31 AM

^^^^^^this is why Rafa's admission of lacking passion for the game is prescient......he needs to be motivated to compete against the Noles of this world. We can speculate about what has brought about the lack of motivation, the successive defeats by Nole etc, etc but the fact is: without motivation, he will not track down balls, those shots will lack power and precision, he will not be focussed i.e. guaranteed to lose.

So, personally I am glad to hear Rafa admit this because it shows he has zeroed in on the problem (and it makes sense to me).........................now he needs to find a solution, if he still wants to belong to the top-tier of course.

Without a passion for the game we can talk about woeful forehands, backhands ad nauseum...................he will remain uncompetitive.

This is no surprise to a lot of Rafans......................I think we started noticing the lack of passion during the Rome-Madrid clay swing.

I hope he finds a solution soon, I don't mind him losing fair and square.......it's the passionless performances he has put in that have been hard to take because that is not Rafa.....................you could see how some of the attempts to gee himself up during matches have been forced of late.

Vamos Rafa!!!!!! Love you, no matter what.......................................

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 9:03 AM

Hopefully, the Davis Cup atmosphere will be a tonic for Rafa and he starts to re-discover his love for the game.........................

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 9:09 AM

Just seems like he is going the Borg way, losing interest at the age of 25 after enjoying amazing success relatively early in this career

atul1985 , 11/25/11 9:21 AM

The one thing that kept federer fans going throughtout his ups and downs is that he never said anything except the fact he loved the game and he is going to keep trying . that told the fedex fans that there is a tomorrow .

if you ask me ...this is like a stab into the hearts of the nadal fans ...whether u want to acknowledge it or not !

breakpoint , 11/25/11 9:29 AM

this is what I meant when I kept saying that I do not see that look in his eyes any more and that his fighting spirit is gone...It is indeed sad to hear this...the guy is only 25 and he is already talking about losing his passion for tennis...with such a huge talent he speaks of losing interest in the game...in my opinion that is nothing but cowardice...I don't care about what Borg did...I care about Rafa and only Rafa! And if he is losing his passion for tennis he is so DAMN wrong about it and it will ruin his future...he still has at least five years of tennis and while he can have his days off he can also have many more triumphs and victories...

Rafa needs to wake up! He is not a fashion icon. He is not an actor! He is a great tennis player and that is what makes him different from the rest and that will paint his history, not Armani advertisements... I hope he understands this. His life should be about tennis, he was great before and he can be great again. The guy needs the professional someone to tell him that...

natashao , 11/25/11 9:53 AM

Well this is a sad day indeed. I have seenthis comming now for a few months. I got a lot of stick from the hardcore nadalfans. But I hate to say I told you so.

That it actually was acknowledged by him is even for me a slight pain, because I feel Federer is gaining momentum as we speak.
He should call of DC and dont bother about januari. Sort your head and problems in your private life. Get a fresh start and come with a blast during the clayswing. There is no way he will get over thid in a few weeks R&R. He is not a machine but a human being with all the problem we face in our private life etc.

Sienna , 11/25/11 9:57 AM

I think there is some friction between Nadal's Mum and Toni because his Mum feels that Toni is getting all the credit for who Rafa is, so she keeps stressing that 'he is MY son'..., we, his parents, brought him up, we gave him his values etc. The press have gone overboard in saying U. Toni is the key figure in Rafa's life and his Mum says she is fed up of reading how Toni is the greatest influence in his life.

There are lots of advantages in a close nit family but at the same time it could be claustrophobic. Rafa has not had the chance to develop as his own person, make his own mistakes and take responsibility for them. Living with all generations of your family in one house, albeit separate dwellings, is OK for a common or garden career but not as a super star at the very top of your sport having to compete with more independent minded players.

Rafa needs to grow up, basically.

Vamos Rafa!

I still have faith in you.

Vamos!

Those who talk about this issue in an effort to mock Rafa please don't respond to my post.

nadline , 11/25/11 10:24 AM

nadline,

You know they will!

Nativenewyorker , 11/25/11 10:28 AM

Please, Rafa is human, he has his feelings and emotions. If Rafa feels that he no longer has the desire or the passion to go out there to play tennis, nobody can say that he's wrong to feel that way. Maybe he feels that enough is enough? Maybe there's too much physical pain for him to endure all these years, starting with his genetic foot problem, which might lead to his knee problems? Maybe he feels that he has missed out certain things in his life that he's passionate about, like playing football, spending more time with his family and friends? Or maybe he'll like to take up another physically less taxing sport like golf? Only Rafa knows his own problem. Should he choose to stop playing tennis, even if I'll be sad about that, I'll still respect his decisions. He has his life to live, the most important thing is for him to feel happy with his life. If he's happy doing all those commercials, to keep his mind off from competitions, he has all the rights to do so. He's not a child, he can decide for himself what he wants to do with his life, I'm sure his parents will respect his decisions and offer appropriate advices to him when needed.

I love Rafa and wish him well in his life. He has brought so much joy to my tennis watching. Of course I hope he can continue to do so for some more years to come, and hope he still can find the passion to play some more tennis and make us his fans happy.

luckystar , 11/25/11 10:33 AM

I hope Rafa gets his motivation back because tennis without Rafa will be sadly lacking indeed.

nadline , 11/25/11 10:39 AM

and why is Rafa website still under construction and "going through some structural changes" for months now...does he not see that as an important tool to update his fans on his TENNIS career...I don't really care about Rafa's advertisements...I can find it on the web if I want to see it...I want to hear about his tennis, his future plans, his schedule and his practice and work towards improvements...All I have been seeing lately is Rafa's photos from the parties and him having fun, which is fine of course but not right before the WTF...we all had hopes for the WTF...and then all of the sudden the news come out how he injured his shoulder during the hard practice sessions...terrible...it is so difficult to be a Rafan these days....

So please Rafa, COME BACK! We miss your tennis, we miss your hard fought battles and we sure miss your victories!

VAMOS RAFA!

From your posts, I know you are a faithful Rafa fan and you are posting from a position of deep hurt, not for Rafa's loss, but for the pain that Rafa must be going through right now. I hear you, babe. But listen, Rafa is no coward, ever. A little stupid maybe in that he always thinks of other people i.e. the fans, his family, over and above his own needs. But a coward, no. I speak as an amateur sportsperson. losing motivation is not cowardice, it is a state of being, nothing you can do about it except embrace it when it hits you, and hope you "weather the storm" and come out of it! Trust me, fighting it is futile when it hits you. The important thing is that you recognise it, let it play out and assist with this process anyway you can.

This is why I am hopeful for Raf because he has identified the problem. Because of his nature and the family support around him, he will accept it with grace and work through it, I am confident of that.

I do not see him walking away from the game, no. He loves the sport, he loves competing. He needs to find that little something that will motivate him to greater heights and uinlike some people, I happen to think his home life is stable, Uncle Toni is exactly the right person in his corner right now. Rafa need not change anything in his personnel set-up. The problem is dep inside of him...................and he WILL flip the light switch................

I have faith in Rafa................

On to the Davis Cup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vamos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 10:51 AM

Trust me, NOBODY, including all those hateful Fedtards, wants to see Rafa leave the sport.......................because everybody knows the sport will be poorer for it.........

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 10:55 AM

C'mon lucky, I can't believe you are saying this...all this talent to be wasted for what?! Just because Rafa is feeling down at the moment he should let his fantasies take over?! Rafa is still a GREAT tennis player. Don't we all at some point feel tired and wish we could do something else to amuse ourselves, thinking we could be better off with that...and yet we go ahead and do our work and end up enjoying more of our personal successes being happy that we made the right decision...Rafa's right decision is to play tennis! Rafa can play golf at the age of 35...Rafa can not play football with those injuries we all know about and it is ridiculous to think he could make anything out of it but to be less than average and go un-noticed...But Rafa certainly can play tennis! If he wants to end his career and go fishing than he can do it, but it would by all means be considered a failure...You don?t call it quit at the first obstacle you face...I still can't believe you of all are saying this...

natashao , 11/25/11 10:59 AM

natashao, this not the first obstacle Rafa has had to face in his career...............remeber Rafa is, for all practical purposes, a cripple. He palys with an uncurable degenerative bone deformity in his foot. When it was first diagnosed, he was told he would never play tennis again. He proved them all wrong. He endured a traumatic family situation, he came back.

So, again I repeat, call Rafa what you want, but quitter? NO..........................

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 11:20 AM

rafaisthebest, I understand what you mean...and I do agree with you...I did not say Rafa is a coward, I said if he thinks his temorary loss of passion could affect his future in tennis that would be nothing but cowardish...and I simply know Rafa is a brave young man..and he will make the right decision...

I wish Rafa is aware of how much he influences people all over the world...he is the very best motivation for all of us...he is the reason why I watch tennis, he is the reason why I am myself into sports...I love everything about Rafa: his determination, his fighting spirit, his game, his personality on and off the court...I do not think he should leave tennis not for another five years at least...he has so much more to offer and nobody should even think of Rafa leaving the stage...Nobody...

Vamos Rafa!!!

natashao , 11/25/11 11:23 AM

I am not mocking I just saw this happening almost 2 years ago. When everything was going fine I thought well something is wrong in that relationship.
The last months it just began to show and I took the liberty to inform you all. Well maybe I went a litle overboard but that was also because of the stick you guys gave me.
I do feel a little sorry for that towards Rafa (not you guys of course) because Rafa is indeed a splendid human being. I do hope he will get back on track and give Roger his revanche that is comming.

Sienna , 11/25/11 11:29 AM

oh, rafaisthebest, don?t even go there...the word cripple simply does not go along with Rafa's name next to it...please, don't make me even more miserable now...he may have had the problem, but I am sure if it was that serious and if he was advised not to play tennis ever again he would have done it...no way Tony would let him go ahead at the price of making permanent damage to his body...they are better than that...Rafa has some issues but nothing that would prevent him from playing professional tennis and competing...I remember when he skipped Wimby due to his knee injuries all I could read was how Rafa knees are the knees of an old man and that he may never play again...that was all rubbish...

natashao , 11/25/11 11:33 AM

natashao, Rafa doesn't live for you and me, but for himself. He mentioned before, that if he feels he can no longer improve anymore, he'll not go out there to practise, if he can't win anymore, he'll call it quit. Who are we to tell him what to do? You have your expectations, but he doesn't need to live up to your expectations. Are you hero worshipping him?

All these years Rafa has brought so much happiness to all his fans, he has already achieved so much in his career. If he thinks that he's happy with his achievements and decides to do something else, that's his choice. I would say, the more he achieves, the more we expect from him. It's his career, it's his life, let him decides for himself. He's a matured guy now, he won't do anything rash. His supportive family will help him out during this down period.

He still has his competitive spirit in him, so my belief is after weighing in all the pros and cons, after his R&R, he'll enjoy the competition again and his passion will be back.

luckystar , 11/25/11 11:41 AM

lucky, please don't be silly...I don?t want to argue with some ridiculous comments you just made...of course I don't think Rafa lives for me or you or any of us and that is just your bad way to put it...I am just expressing my opinion as a concerned fan because this is a tennistalk site and I am allowed to do it! I don't think Rafa reads any of this and he does not care what I think or you to that matter...but as a fan I expect him to be able to make the right decision and I don?t think he will be any happier about his life if he decides to leave tennis at this point...I consider such decision unwise because I think he still has so much to offer...I can not influence his decision and neither can you...but for a fan to say that it would be fine for him to leave the stage NOW if he wishes so is just beyond comprehension...and to do what? Play FOOTBALL?!!...this would in fact be a funny statement if it wasn't sad already...maybe you and I just differ in our opinions and I respect that you have lesser expectations as a fan than I do...I certainly wish more for Rafa...

and yes I do worship Rafa...I don't see anything wrong with that and I will do it as long as he plays...and I think he so much deserves to be worshiped...

natashao , 11/25/11 12:07 PM

I agree with most of what has already been said on this thread. As a devoted Rafa fan it really upsets me to see him struggling like this. He obviously has problems and only he can solve them and decide what he needs to do - I will be with him 100% be it good or bad for us fans.

His fighting spirit and passion for tennis is what drew me to him in the first place and set him apart from the rest. This has brought about exciting and amazing tennis since he first appeared on the scene. I really hope his passion for the sport has only been mislaid and that he will find it again in the near future.

The losses he has suffered this year would have beaten down most people and Rafa is after all said and done a sensitive person with his confidence well and truly dented.

I know that he will find the passion he needs to play in the DC final as he will not let his team mates down or his country.

I have watched some old matches recently when Rafa was in his teens/early 20s and I so want that Rafa back but only if that is what he wants for himself.

Rafa - love you always no matter what - God bless.

schatz , 11/25/11 12:22 PM

Sienna, you and me both. You weren't mocking, afterall many a true word is said in jest. Rafael was very distracted last night as a result his timing was off. He's at a crossroads in life and needs to grow up and be allowed to do so.

mojo , 11/25/11 12:28 PM

Ed, Happy Birthday - enjoy your day.

schatz , 11/25/11 12:30 PM

Commiserations Rafa fans,
He was unlucky in this tournament, getting the mild food poisoning or whatever it was. Had he got past Jo I feel he would have been nearly back to normal & perhaps ready to try for the title, he certainly had improved his game compared to the debacle previously with Roger, but Tsonga was quite brilliant & not to be denied.
It will soon be time to move on to a New Year & hopefully better times for our favs.
Onwards & upwards!

Sosueme , 11/25/11 12:33 PM

natashao, I don't want to argue with you here, knowing that you're rather upset now. Calm down, let me ask you one question, if Rafa really quit now, how do you feel? Devastated? Please, don't let all these things upset you, our lives shouldn't just revolve around Rafa.

Of course we as his fans would be upset but do know this day will come sooner or later. And please, don't tell Rafa what to do with his life!

After saying all these, and after I read his presser, there's nothing there to suggest that Rafa has lost the passion for tennis. In fact it's the opposite, he's realisitic and analysed the situation well, knowing exactly where his game is at the moment and mentioned that he'll continue to work hard for his game and hopes to win big tournaments next year. It's all good news for his fans, I don't see the need to argue among ourselves here. I'll stop here.

luckystar , 11/25/11 12:33 PM

2012 is make or break year Rafans..If he comes back and wins few big tourneys next year, he may play for another 2-3 years..If he falls apart next year, it may be curtains down

Yes its his life but I as a fan want him to retire with atleast 13-14 slams..

And yes 2011 has been the most painful season, even worse than 2009..because 2009 we knew problem was the knee and long layoff but 2011..its all more mental than physical..or rather lemme say mental issues overpower physical injuries

sanju , 11/25/11 12:40 PM

If Rafa quit right now I would be very disappointed...and that is all...I can not influence his decision and he is free to do whatever he wants, I can only wish he does not quit...and I do have my own life, don?t worry, otherwise I would spend much more time on TT, but unfortunately have so many other things to do...

haha, so now I am telling Rafa what to do with his life? I would be pleased if I were to learn that Rafa would ever listen to some poster on TT...I just have hopes that the people that he does listen to think the same way as I do...

Tsonga won the match and instead of giving him credit this all the talk in this thread is about Nadal

tennis2011 , 11/25/11 1:21 PM

tennis2011 Tsonga is becomming a real thread to the top guys. I feel he is far more dangerous then Ferrer is and more stability then Berdych not even mentioning DelPotro. He has really left Monfils and the other frenchmen behind and can have a swing at whoever lacks behind of the top 4 in 2012

Sienna , 11/25/11 1:33 PM

treet thread or threathI am at a total loss. Nadal is completely sucked dry and I new this day would come and it fills me with grief and sorrow.

Sienna , 11/25/11 1:35 PM

tennis2011, you can talk freely about Tsonga here, nobody stops you, just go ahead. We can post what we want too!

luckystar , 11/25/11 1:48 PM

"... it fills me with grief and sorrow." Why sienna?

bleck , 11/25/11 1:53 PM

Nole lost his passion for the game couple of years ago as well. I remember commentators saying that, then all of a sudden things started going well for him. Murray also suffered a down time last year but success has sparked his spirits up again. As for Roger, he was at the top for so long that when he started losing and going down the rankings, he'd done it all and was approaching 30 anyway so it wasn't such a big deal for him and anything he does now is a bonus.

I hope Rafa starts getting the results he is capable of, that will go a long way to sorting out whatever is causing him to lose his passion for the game.

nadline , 11/25/11 2:23 PM

Well because I always felt Nadal & Federer to be locked together. They understand and respect eachother so any harm inflicted upon the other is also noticable upon the otherone.
Without Nadal Roger probably would have touched 20 slams already, but is is also so that Nadal has given Fed so many problems to solve and challenges that Fed always was on the very brink of his talent and mentality.
So I do believe Roger is a better player / person thanks to Nadal. It also goes the other way around Nadal being second for so long just witnessed what kind of beast Federer is doing it year after year.

Sienna , 11/25/11 2:46 PM

I certainly won't miss nadal as I dislike his playstyle and his on court antics.

It's true that nadal and Roger pushed each other to new heights and raised the bar in terms of level of play.

Also nadal was done in 2009 after the knee issues according to some journos and experts as was Roger in 2008 after mono. So I truly believe that come the clay season nadal will be back at his best. As for the hardcourt season up to clay I don't think he'll do very well.

bleck , 11/25/11 2:54 PM

I would agree but he lost the passion for tennis. I mocked about that that was happening, but I did see it a litle. But to say it out loud and then say it at pressconference well it is the end. His passion on cout is his biggest asset. That is what made Fed and Nadal what they are Federer's passion and relentless thirst in more is unparalleleld as is Nadal spirit on court.

Sienna , 11/25/11 2:58 PM

This is the first year since 2004 that nadal hasn't won a title of clay. Also it is the first time since 2002 that Roger hasn't won a GS.

If Roger doesn't win a GS next year or if nadal fails to win 2/3 clay titles then the decline of any of them is to stay.

bleck , 11/25/11 3:03 PM

It hasn't been such a disastrous year for Rafa because he reached 10 finals, including 3 GS and won 3 titles including 1 GS.

Xisca is at college in England now so if Rafa is avoiding being liable to UK tax, when are they going to see each other........none of my business, I know.

nadline , 11/25/11 3:08 PM

Bleck, Rafa won 3 clay titles this year - MC, Barca and RG.

nadline , 11/25/11 3:10 PM

I meant a title outside of clay.

bleck , 11/25/11 3:16 PM

"This end of the year wasn't easy for me," said Nadal after falling to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a Group B decider at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. "That's hard to accept. But at the same time that's given me a little bit more illusion and little bit more of a goal for the beginning of 2012. This year was a tough year for me. I think it was a positive one for moments, but at the same time it was hard for moments. [I have to] accept what happened during all the season and I need time to think."

nadline , 11/25/11 3:17 PM

We should also put in perspective the injuries and illnesses Rafa has suffered this year-:

flu
ruptured adductor muscle
foot injury
burned fingers
food poisoning
shoulder sprain

all of which contributed to some of his losses.

nadline , 11/25/11 3:24 PM

yes that is not one his greatest assets he would leave the tennisworld.
Never ever says he was hiondered by something but always given a reason why he did not perform he way he should.

Sienna , 11/25/11 3:28 PM

and the food poisening is something you made up. He just said he had a tommyache... well that hardly is something like food poisening.
Burned fingers is a joke that you would bring the up. That can only happen if your passion for tennis is not present at the time. So I was right after all.

Sienna , 11/25/11 3:32 PM

No one seems to give a toss about that but everyone has an opinion on Rafa losing to the 16 times GS champion and World No 1 for 280 odd weeks 63 60 and the World No 5 in 3 sets, one of them a tie-break and everyone is on the case, searching for answers.

Wow!

I don't think Jose Mourinho would mind sharing this description with Rafa: THE SPECIAL ONE!!

Seriously, judging by the blogosphere reaction to Rafa's "travails", I fear for the state of world peace should he not recover soon from his "stupor"!!!

Very soon sienna will be clamouring for a NATO-enforced no-fly zone over Manacor........to ensure Rafa is not disturbed as he rests..................

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 6:25 PM

^^^RITB, you are creasing me up!!!

What further proof do we need that tennis needs Rafa. He is the brightest shining star they've got.

I will refer to him as The Special One from now on.

nadline , 11/25/11 6:36 PM

^^^ ooh aah, you beat me to it, nadline......................i was going to adopt the name, rafaisthespecialone, as an alter-ego, heck fleur went by maxi fer chrissake.......

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 6:41 PM

Yawn!

Yeah, I just want to say a most Happy Birthday to ed251137 too!
Just don't overdue do it on the sherry tonight old girl,
Those hangovers get harder & harder to vanquish, as you well know ; 0 )

Sosueme , 11/25/11 7:15 PM

Hey Sos...............I watched a contraband video of the movie, Puss 'n Boots last night..............thought of you..............that Puss got moves, am warming to him as a Rafa alter-ego.....................like!

rafaisthebest , 11/25/11 7:20 PM

Opted for celebrating at lunchtime even though it meant missing Nole/Tipsy match - in favour of watching Ferrer/Berdych tonight. Hope it is more enjoyable than some of the other matches this week :-(

I like watching both these guys but I'll be hoping Ferrer gets the win.

ed251137 , 11/25/11 7:26 PM

Sos: Thought for today. The more birthdays you have, the longer you live.

ed251137 , 11/25/11 7:28 PM

ed, er, you are a profound one arent you. Also the more birthdays you have the less your able to remember when the next one is ; )

@RITB

"that Puss got moves"
He surely does RITB!
And on that note I bid you Ladies farewell, for the evening beckons in London town!

Sosueme , 11/25/11 7:47 PM

Many happy returns, ed!

I hope you're having / had a great celebration today.

chlorostoma , 11/25/11 7:49 PM

everyone discussing Rafa because he has just resigned as a elite top player.
He will be finished at the end of the year. At the moment he is hardly a top 20 player I fear that his ambition has deflated he cares not anymore for tennis.

Fed on the otherhand has got no worries . We will see tomorrow if Berdych can become a real dange to Fed in form. We actually know the outcome of an onform Fed against Bedry or Tsonga the same. Fed looks very good to take a slam in 2012.

Luckystar claims he cannot only if the stars are inline and everybody is injured and no new kids around. Rodney Laver says he can and will win slams in 2012. Who do you pick? LOL

Sienna , 11/25/11 8:43 PM

ed,

If you are still here, Happy Birthday! Many happy returns of the day! Remember - you are getting better, not older! :)

You always have my back here and help me get through the trials and tribulations of surviving on this site!

Thanks for being a class act and such a great person! Have a few drinks on me! Here is a symbolic toast from across the Atlantic ocean! :)

Nativenewyorker , 11/26/11 12:43 AM

Ed happy belated birthday.

sienna - need I repeat what I posted on the other thread about Rod Laver's prediction and how it turned out?

The last time I looked at the rankings, Rafa is still no.2 only behind one guy, not the old fella of course. Rafa is capable of beating the old guy 75% of the time, only letting the old guy shines a little bit during this little part of the season. I think sienna should focus her attention during this little part of the season on the likes of Berdych and Tsonga rather then focus on Rafa, who already has his mind on DC now.

Rafa is The Special One, we have already established that...........................why else would even people who profess to not like him spend so much time writing about him?

So, accept the ribbing with "colm" as TSO would say.......................he is special....

Can't wait for DC..............................and of course sienna will be watching, feasting her eyes on TSO!!

rafaisthebest , 11/26/11 6:46 AM

We will be seeing The Special One on court again, this time next week.

Vamos Rafa
