Novak Djokovic admits he might have tried too much too soon in an effort to try and keep his miracle season going strong back in September.
And now the No. 1 Serb is paying the physical price as he fails to shine at the World Tour Finals.
The Serb suffered what he admitted was his worst loss of the season as he crashed 6-3, 6-1 to Spain's David Ferrer in group play in London.
"Maybe it was the wrong decision to play the Davis Cup after US Open and after I was not fresh on the court, not feeling well, partly injured as well," said Djokovic, who lost for only the fifth time this season when he went down quietly to Ferrer. "But it was my decision. I play with the heart sometimes. Sometimes maybe it's better to think with the head."
Djokovic said that he had no excuses for his lack of fire against Ferrer, now into the semi-finals along with Roger Federer. "All the credit to opponent, he played great match," said Djokovic, winner of ten titles in 2011.
"This was the worst match I've played this season so far, I just wasn't there. So many unforced errors. I'm not playing well - that's a fact. Maybe it's the length of the season. Maybe it's because I'm not feeling well. Those days are possible in sport and you have to accept the defeat.
"It's hard to find something (positive)...movement, feel for the ball, anticipation on the court, nothing. Just a terrible, terrible match."
Djokovic was injured in the September Davis Cup semi-final and took six weeks off. But upon his return early in the month in Federer's hometown event in Basel, he was plagued by a shoulder injury, which also forced him out before a Paris quarter-final.

Playing Belgrad/Madrid/Rome back to back was silly too,
