World No. 7 Tomas Berdych is through to the semifinals following his three-set victory over world No. 5 David Ferrer. By virtue of the final round-robin result, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic will not qualify.
Seventh seed Tomas Berdych made his first semifinal in London, having ousted an in-form David Ferrer in three sets late Friday. The 26-year-old overcame a slow start to secure the win in two hours and 8 minutes, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
After leveling the match at a set apiece, Berdych built a 5-0 advantage in the decider. Three match points came at 5-1 for the Czech, who closed the night on a volley winner. He completed the effort with seven aces and five service breaks.
As the Group A winner, Berdych will square off against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who finished second in Group B.
Ferrer is slated to battle defending champion and Group B winner Roger Federer.

Yes h2h is the tie-breaker but I agree with you : Ferrer was 5-2 in sets and Berdych was only 5-4. :(

I don't understand something here so please, explain. Maybe it was already explained somewhere but I didn't get to read it.
Why is Berdych no1 in his group? He played three three setters, winning two. Ferrer also won twice and did this in two sets. Sure, he lost to Berdych but still had better ratio of win/lost sets than Berdy. Is it really just because the match between the two of them went Berdy's way? Doesn't seem right :(
