• Tsonga and Fish fight for survival in London

    11/22/11 4:20 AM | Cheryl Murray
Tsonga and Fish fight for survival in London The losers of the first round robin match in group B will face each other on Tuesday, as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Mardy Fish clash in the matinee match.

The last time Mardy Fish and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga met, the result was an epic five-set match. The good news for the London crowds is that it occurred only a few months ago at the US Open, with Tsonga taking the match 6-2 in the fifth.

Fish will be at a disadvantage this time, however. The American won’t be on home soil with the complete support of the crowd. Fish is also battling a groin injury that took him out of the Paris Masters two weeks ago.

A poor last service game cost Tsonga the match against Roger Federer on Sunday and a poor tiebreak cost Fish his match against Rafael Nadal. Both men were close to pulling off upsets.

Prediction – The conditions favor Tsonga slightly, but expect this to be a hard-hitting, entertaining affair with Fish pushing the Frenchman hard. Tsonga in 3.

We will soon see if Fish is as good as Luckystar says he is. I doubt he'll have a chance of beating Tsonga. That will be the upset of the day.

Anybody see a livescore or the match. I'm at work so no chance to see it.

Sienna, Fish served at 5-4 for the set but didn't close it out. Fish won the next 2 games. It's 6-5 Fish at the moment.

bleck , 11/22/11 4:03 PM

I meant Tsonga served for the set at 5-4 not fish.

bleck , 11/22/11 4:04 PM

Tie break. Tsonga has found his serve and will probably get it.

ed251137 , 11/22/11 4:08 PM have a job? Splutter, splutter...............

rafaisthebest , 11/22/11 4:20 PM

1st set Tsonga in the breaker 7-6(4).
Traded breaks in first 2 games of the 2nd set, 1-1.

bleck , 11/22/11 4:22 PM

When did I say Fish is good? Don't put words into my mouth. I said he's erratic. Fish has a good net game that's all I said about his game.

Tsonga wins in straight sets, cerrtainly no choking for him against a lower ranked player.

luckystar , 11/22/11 4:50 PM

7-6(4) 6-1 Tsonga NID

bleck , 11/22/11 4:52 PM

Thanks bleck. As aspected from the showing of the first match.

Several times you have made sure that Fish was a formidable opponent against Rafa. You did raise the question lets see what his match against Tsonga will be. So now you know. You saw the match? breadstick up the...

Sienna , 11/22/11 5:16 PM

Sienna, No problem.

There are some people here who think fish was as bad as tsonga in the first macth. This of course just to give more value to nadal's win. Luckystar even posted some personal remarks about me, but it's fine this match showed who's better.
zare also seems to think tsonga was worst than fish.
When people have the truth in front of their eyes and can't see it what are we to do?!

And tsonga is going to give nadal problems.

bleck , 11/22/11 5:26 PM

Bleck... You were watchig the match?
You saw last Tsonga's game?
...and you are speaking about the truth in front of eyes? LOL!
Nevermind Tsonga WAS better than Fish... that last service just erased everything...
Get it?

zare , 11/22/11 5:49 PM

sienna and bleck, I challenge you two to read my responses on the other match threads. When did I use the word formidable? Both of you have serious creditabilty problems. Please do not put words into my mouth! Maybe your minds are so filled with Rafa that you can't even figure things out properly.

bleck, it's precisely because Tsonga played better against Fed, than Fish against Rafa, that I mentioned that he had every chance to beat Fed. Tsonga has proven that I'm right by beating Fish. Can't you see the logic there? Fish did make it interesting in the first set, no? Having come from behind to force a tie break! So I don't understand what you and sienna are blabbering about.

luckystar , 11/22/11 6:41 PM

no LS it is not logic. Fish choked and played awfull.
Tsonga was bombed the first set... and lost the final set,

Sienna , 11/22/11 8:56 PM

He lost the final set because he choked big time, simple as that.
